Great they've put the curse on us now. If we're humiliated everybody is going to put @@@@ing boot in.

Not yet they won't....they'll just go back to what they were thinking last week.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

        Robbo? Really?

        Noooo.

Robbo is such an untidy slobbish drunk..he normally or most times doesn't want to know about non victorian sides and just wants to talk collingwood/essendon/carlton.

When I said 'reasonably intelligent' I was basing that on most conversations between AFL journos. And I think Gerard provides about 90% of the intelligence... I like Gerard....

I'm a big Whateley fan too. Good ABC breeding. Unbiased. Analytical. Well spoken. Fearless.

You can have Robbo. Bad Hun breeding.

Agree with above comments about our contenders status. This weekend is the test. If we can't compete with Hawks, we are once again 2nd tier. If we can win or even get within an honourable three goals, we are genuine.

Really looking forward to see how we come up.

By the way, since when have print journalists suddenly become media 'personalities'? Over the last few years people who have simply reported on the game have been promoted as 'experts' on football when, in reality, all they do is muck-rake for stories and then promote themselves. All of a sudden people like Robbo are on radio 'waiting for your call' so that they can tell us their opinion on everything to do with football, as well as on footy shows on tv. Why? Must the Footy Show have a journalist come on and explain the news of the week when the hosts have done that well enough ever since its inception? Why are print journalists now self-promoting and being revered by the public? Why? Why? Why?

I guess we also need to accept that we are just one of 18 teams. And we are not in
Melbourne where control head quarters are. We really can't expect to have masses of coverage until such time as we perform and have good results. If we win this weekend and also next against the crows then we can get our backs up and have our say . Until then let's enjoy flying under the radar and hopefully, after a few more wins, we can make everyone sit up and listen.

What gives me the massive poops is that this competition is suppose to be national but to this day we still have melbourne teams, regardless of their postion on the ladder, get first and foremost coverage while the other teams are merely interstate sides. Then the AFL tries to tell us all it's a national comp when clearly its still a very victorian comp.

Again does the NRL media do this? Does a team from sydney who is coming last amongst sydney teams get more talked about than say a non sydney side that is undefeated?

Down here Melbourne FC gets written about non stop. I mean this is a club with a limited amount of support and a club who has done nothing but repeat its failures year in year out - yet they still get talked about more than any interstate team. This is a team that despite tanking for a few seasons and receiving nothing but talented players keeps getting flogged each week. No one i know cares about melbourne - no one!

And then you have James Brayshaw and his over importance on himself and North. Last night i watched TFS for the first time in years..and we were third last at 11.30 at night. When they mentioned our game there were loud cheers..so its not that we havent got support at all in melbourne. When they mentioned both Melb and North Melb there were hardly any cheers in the audience! Yet Melb and North Melb were on earlier..and they even had a north player on the panel. Again another club with limited support that no one really gives two hoots about yet they get as much coverage as say carlton.

Enough of rabble teams and just concentrate on the good teams irrespective of location.

You can blame the internet for this. Also you could blame the cult of celebrity as well. Newspapers don't have proper journos as editors no more they now promote entertainment reporters to the top job.

Look I understand that the situation is not ideal - but its just the nature of the beast it's beyond our control. The NRL media bang about Manly, Bulldogs & St George in rapturous tones and my team the Sharks copes stick constantly some warranted, most not (and having a nephew on the medical staff there I'm more inclined to believe him as to what the real situation is rather than the media) we just have to go along for the ride and see what happens.

So the sharkies are the same as the saints in the AFL eh? Both have had a lack of success and both have had players doing really stupid things away from the footy field! Both are constantly picked on by the media!

Yeah pretty much - all clubs have their idiots. However, The ex players who scream the loudest about bad behavior if others were generally the ring leaders for louts back on their day. My other Niece is married to the cousin of a former SOO hero - and I have never met a bigger idiot dick brained arsehole in my entire life,he played for Newtown. And yet he is revered by the likes of the buffoons on the NRL footy show when in reality he isas truly awful person. So take what he NRL media say with a grain of salt as a lot of the time they have it just so wrong.

The reasons Swans get very little coverage is that they are consistently good but not great. People expect us to come 5th-8th without really challenging for the premiership and for the past 5 years that's pretty much exactly what we've done. From the media's point of view, there is nothing much new or spectactular to report.

As for Melbourne, you've given the reasons why they're so much written about. People love reading about a horrendous disaster and if gets worse and worse each week, so much the better for the media!
