Hey neilfws, I'm very impressed with your high-brow reference to the Dunning Kruger effect. I would certainly subscribe to the hypothesis that BT sufferes from a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average.

Perhaps you'll indulge me to postulate the parallel possibility of a Schr?dinger's Cat paradym also being in effect here, along the following lines: "BT, along with a flask containing a poison and a radioactive source, is placed in a sealed commentary box. If an internal Geiger counter detects radiation, the flask is shattered, releasing the poison that kills BT. The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics implies that after a while (say, by the 3rd quarter), BT is simultaneously alive and dead. Yet, when we look in the comentary box, we see BT either alive or dead, not both alive and dead." This would explain the calibre of his commentary.

Policeman: "Yes, I was married once."

Also it has to be said that he had a short fuse And was prone to brain farts like a certain CHF that used to play for us. He was no angel that's for sure. I have to say that I actually prefer the ABC grandstand blokes of Gerard , Drew,David Parkin and of course Mark McClure. Dennis Cometti is trying too hard these days to be funny and as for Bruce OMG he is just annoying!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Sorry, I mistook that reference completely. I thought you were talking about Dunning-Kruger, the half forward flanker from Fitzroy. Apparently, he continually called for his team mates to pass the ball to him thinking that he was in a better position, only to find that, when he got the ball, his opponent always tackled him and he gave away a free kick. His coach used to confront him about this but he never seemed to understand. Eventually he retired as a fairly bitter man but has now moved on to better things and is employed as a talent scout by Melbourne.

Oh, and dont forget the possibility that BT may have tired of the experiment and crawled out when they weren't looking. Or did I say that too Gently?

Commentators...mostly not a problem...but BT is hopeless & Bruce is really not "special" anymore except as a parody of himself offering gems of knowledge that I didn't need to know...I think he has stifled the best of Commetti who is a genuine funny guy. How come though no one (perhaps I have misssed it) has mentioned Duane Russell...just awful...especially in & around us.

I say it every year but everytime the talk of commentators comes up I reminisce and miss Clinton Grybus. His 3AW call of the last minute of the Nick Davis semi is the best I've ever heard.

Cant remember what game it was I was watching recently, but there was an exciting passage of play, and Bruce actually squealed ... it was pathetic.

Bruce was excited when the mention of kirk and swallow playing on each other.

"What nice bit of eye candy"

Then he got excited when jets kicked a goal and dennis mentioned if he loves jets now more than carl lewis..

"Now your getting perrrrsonaaal" or something like that.

                            Oh bruce be 'ave!
