16 Uncontested to Bird, Rnd 5 Stats

Jets still leads the Goal Kicking.
Sammy is getting a Buddy Ball to play with this week.
I think Buddy is getting one as well!!

Bird led the way today closely followed by the usual suspects, JPK and Parker!!

Young Lukie got 8 clearances that is awesome. I like the % in Effective Disposals most over 65% only a few worse than that.

I realise that Rhyce had a very hard job today but 6 posies at 17% is pretty bad. He probably held Rioli but still he normally hurts them going the other way. Worried that he is not quite right. I know I said the same thing about ROK & he came good.

He kept Harvey quiet last week, and Rioli reasonably quiet this week. I think Rioli was the tougher job for him.
Whilst Harvey is good, Rioli is very elusive. Rhyce having limited touches, not a problem.

Apart from a couple of moments of Rioli brilliance, he was very quiet by his standards, and again Shaw did well. He didn't get much of the ball himself, but he is doing the shut down job beautifully.

Oh and Bird deserves a mention. Yes he got a lot of uncontested possessions, but he has been very good all season, and he is finally beginning to fulfill his potential to be an accomplished afl player.

Wolfie, you really need to lay off Shaw. No coach would put a player who is off his game/injured (I'm not sure which you are implying is the case) in charge of stopping Rioli. He really has performed magnificently the last couple of weeks and, for your own peace of mind, you need to get your head around the fact that tagging players don't need to get many possessions to be effective.

Rioli was threatening to tear the game apart in the first half and Shaw stopped him from doing that. At one point Rioli went to the bench and Shaw pushed into the midfield and spent a couple of minutes on Hodge while waiting for Junior Boy to come back on....

Rioli is pretty close to being the best player in the comp (cant put 4 qrts together so not quite...), but shaw's job in containing him was fantastic.

Absolutely, ridiculous criticism of a player who has shut down Hill, Harvey and Rioli.

Shaw is one of the first picked each week and rightly so. Will have plenty of votes from the coaches for his work so far this year.

Bird is finally realising his potential that saw him given the No.14 guernsey, has had a great year so far.

Hanneberry is developing into a top liner.

Parker will be a gun when he matures :-)

JK will have had his Brownlow odds twiddled down a bit more after today.

Today was our best win for some time, great stuff.

Bird was doing OK until his foot injury a couple of years ago. Then he has struggled to find form.
This year he seems to have found that something extra in his game, and is excelling.

Incredibly impressed with Shaw, even more so this week. The commentators barely called Rioli's name. That' says it all. Shaw kept him away from getting the ball. Brilliant stuff.

Birdy is getting better and better, bit by bit. Which is why we should lay off some of the other younguns who are travelling similar paths.

What a different Smooch makes to the backline!!!

Criticism of Shaw is just in the PMSL category.

Correct weight Scott. He has a huge tank and that foot injury took a fair bit off his pace and he is not real quick. I have noticed the last couple he seems to have found a yard in pace. In the last quarter he did an enormous amount of running, and at one point after a long run when cameras went on him at a stoppage, he wouldn't have blown out a candle.

A lot was made on the TV and radio this morning about the move of Bolton to the midfield. Strange term that one. It wasn't what he did at centre clearances but more around the ground that helped swing the game. Parkers and Hanners work at centre clearances was outstanding. They are now going straight at the footy or are the one on defensive side of the pack to take the handball and are almost always in the right spot to win possession. This is a big change in how we do things in 2012.

Glad to see you're finally happy with our clearance work, Nico!!

The other thing I've noticed with our clearances is JPK's vision. Seems to be able to find a decent option in quick time under pressure more times than not these days.
He was always good at getting the ball, now he's using it much more effectively.
