To be fair, in that last ustream game against Ainslie, the quality improved significantly after the first quarter and it was watchable for the rest of the game.

Coming off the long trip to the Northern Territory, and no doubt disappointed with their last quarter capitulation, the Reserves will be looking to stay in finals contention when they face one of the 2 new Sydney teams. With Sydney Uni's home unavailable this week, this match has been scheduled for Blacktown, a ground the Swans should be familiar with having had a number of NAB Cup, practice and reserves matches in the past couple of years.

Sydney Uni are the weaker of the 2 new Sydney based teams, not having the werewithal to attract star recruits like the Eagles have and having to rely on the same list that has served them well in the Sydney AFL competition.

The Reserves were the superior side for 3 quarters of this game, however their profligacy in front of goal in the first half ultimately proved fatal when the Thunder stormed home with a 7 goals to 1 last quarter. The defensive duo of Heath and Lynch did a solid job on the dangerous Darren Ewing keeping him to a respectable 2 goals. Mitch Morton kicked 4 goals while Harry Cunningham was dominant in the clearances, especially in the first half

Queanbeyan 20.15 (135) defeated Sydney Uni 8.7 (55)
Uni were outlplayed by the form side in the Tigers, who opened up a convincing 70 point half time lead. A much better showing in the 3rd quarter, which the Students won by 18 points gave them some hope but couldn't contain the surging Queanbeyan team in the final quarter. Peter Dugmore

Up to 17 listed players will play, resulting in one of the strongest ressies lineups in recent times. White returns after spending last week in Launceston as the travelling emergency. They will be keen to get a game into him this week. Given the game is played earlier than than the usual curtain raiser at our home ground, there is a chance that all 3 emergencies could get a full run in this game.

Kruger has been spending time playing in defence, often against the opposition's small forwards, and while he has struggled at times with the pressure and his composure, will be learning a lot from it. Heath and Lynch have both been impressive this year, featuring in the best votes a number of times and starting to form a partnership reminiscent of their senior counterparts Richards and Grundy.

Walsh has relieved Pyke in the past 2 weeks but White could re-take this role given that has been his position in his 2 seniors games this year. TDL has played more forward of the ball lately as the reserves regain some numbers from injury and ineligibility and will likely do so again as Tom Mitchell makes his first appearance of the season. The father-son selection is likely to play only a portion of the game as the fitness staff ease back into action.

Morton added another 4 goals last week with a number of impressive marks but didn't impress the coaches. Meredith failed to shine against the Thunder after an encouraging showing 2 weeks ago against Tuggeranong but thankfully he didn't get injured again and will line up for his 3rd straight game. Gordon's poor disposal is starting to become an issue as he hasn't been as prominent this year in the midfield as he was last year in the forwards.

Some familiar names in Krochmal, Caspersson, Carter, Lewington, Roberts and Crichton all having played as topups for the reserves. Crichton was close to earning a rookie spot a few years ago.

Summary
It was a disappointing end to what began as a promising showing last week. The Reserves' pressure and tackling fell away in the final quarter, possibly due to the humid conditions in Darwin. Sydney Uni will not be at the same level as the NT Thunder but they have already travelled to Canberra and come away with a priceless away victory so they will be no easybeats either. However with a such a strong list available for this matchup, the Swans will be aiming to collect the 4 competition points.

I just had a thought - I used to play CHB for Eagles and also against Sydney Uni at various times and I can just imagine their CHB waking up this morning thinking they were going to be playing on Walsh/White/Pyke. I would have spent all morning in the toilet and would have been over-awed. Spare a thought for the poor guys.

Thanks Ugg. I had a look at the Swans site this morning and I noticed all the emergencies are in the Reserves line up. That usually means there is definitely no change. Looks a very strong team. I wonder if some of the guys tired last week due to lack of match practice or games at that level. Guys like Pyke & Meredith who have not played all games due to injury. I think Lamb is a little out of condition too due to his pre-season injury.

Big fan of Dyl's and he's been going pretty well in the Ressies this year. The way our midfield is firing in the seniors it'll be tough for him to crack a spot but if he keeps working hard and playing well then anything can happen.

We do have a long term injury and he may be added to the main list but at this time he is only on the rookie list so he won't play seniors any time soon. If he is retained more chance of seeing him listed next year. He has been very good in the Resies games I have seen this year which is all but one. Going to have to miss this one today as I have a birthday party. Tempted to ditch Party but we have been friends for 20 years and I don't think that would be a good thing for the friendship.

Definitely going to the Seniors though!!!
