Making the top 4 is the priority. Geelong could afford to rest players last year because it had top 2 sewn up after about 10 rounds! We are not guaranteed a spot in the 8 yet, let alone in the 4! If a player needs a rest, im sure they will get one. I think Seaby is getting one. If we cant beat teams below us with close to our best 22, then i wouldnt be flirting with our form too much. We are not that good ( yet).Comment

When Walsh was recruited he was promised game time. Trouble was/is he has not proved to be AFL standard, yet, judging by his performance in the twos. He is getting his chance this weekend because he is owed. Against Melbourne the coaching panel can afford to take some risks with selection. Again, judging by comments on this site, Morton's performance in the twos does not justify selection. And maybe he is not on a promise."Play like you can’t lose."Comment

I think you certainly could make that argument. I'm not trying to suggest it should be on form only, but it has to be a consideration.
I thought he was good in that game, too- but I think you could then also argue his ruckwork was a reason we lost against Adelaide?
I'm not trying to suggest that Lewis has been awful all season, I do like the guy- watching him run around makes me feel like I've got double value for my ticket price, entry to the footy AND to el Cabalo Blanco! I'm just saying I don't get why he appears to be an automatic inclusion over Jesse this season in the role, I'm not sure how much of a difference it normally makes but I would have thought that if we go with Pyke as first ruck this weekend then we might have wanted to opt for the better ruckman as backup as there's a chance they'll have to spend a bit more time doing it/we might need to fall back on them."Play like you can’t lose."Comment

No doubt we are really frustrated by Jesse as are the coaching staff. Just a thought why doesn't the club utilise Dermott Brereton to teach White the art of playing like forward. I saw a clip in which he was tutoring Izzy Folou at GWS training. Maybe he may get the message across for no doubt he has that potential.
His turning circle is about the same as the QE2, his recovery efforts are almost non existent. When he does provide a second effort, the commentators and supporters talk about it for 20 minutes, that's how rare those efforts are.
His frees against are just too many for a genuine AFL player.
I have been n the Jesse train for a few years now, but I am now officially OFF..Trade time.Comment

So list management isnt a part of our game? So you and Al both say that Chris Scott,Brett Ratten etc all have no idea and resting players is a joke? If you dont move with the times you get left behind,if we cant beat Melbourne missing one or two senior playersa then we are just also rans and making up numbers. It was only a couple of weeks ago we were flying and even after the loss to the crows no-one was worried now you and others think we are that bad we will lose to Melbourne at home if say Mcveigh got rested? What a load of @@@@e,people need to think ahead and man management is the way of the top young coaches who have studied its affects overseas.
Personally i dont want to make finals then have every other team run rings around us because we were too frigging old fashioned or bull headed to know thats players games need to be managed over the WHOLE seasopn we are already 4 or so games behind in resting guys compared to some clubs,it doesnt need to be wholesale changes just a steady rotation every game.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

We are already without three or four walk-up start players in Goodes, Mumford, Rohan and (probably) Spangher take out a couple more and that's a third of your starting side out. There's a week off coming in a few weeks and a chance to play some players into form in something other than your typical NEAFL walkover - I'd rather we played our best than gifting a game to a younger guy for the sake of change.Last edited by 4 the Bloods; 18 May 2012, 03:50 PM.Comment

Saying that I'm persisting with a line is somewhat belittling to someone just having a differing opinion.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

objectively he may offer more flexibility - and I can accept that but he isn't in our first choice defence and hasn't been for 12 months or longer.
when all is said and done i think jesse is better on the ball and forward and is a better ruck. lrt is a better tackler and defender. neither is all that crash hot but they are all we've got. i think the endless criticism of white is unfair - he may not be fabulous but when we play well he is often much better than people think and when we are bad it is almost always our midfield getting thrashed. likewise lrt gets his tyres pumped up for one tackle on franklin. But had jesse white been the player run down against adelaide when 15 metres in the clear and dawdling over the kick everyone would have gone spare at him - but because it was lrt it was just moved on.
the truth is that LRT has gone from a much maligned player to one of our longest servants. But it really is hard to see too many good games from him for nearly two years or more.
finally and perhaps more importantly i think our game plan of kicking it really long to a contest doesn't suit either of them at all. jesse can lead and mark on the lead, but he really isn't good enough to push a defnder away and mark. in actual fact neither can take a contested mark on the forward line. LRT can take the occasional one in the backline but even that is pretty reliant on the fact that when you are defending your opponent is also trying to mark the ball. both bring the ball to ground but because of longmire's long kicking game combined with the half forwards being drawn to the boundary throw/ball up/stoppage we have no-one near the fall of the ball to make any use of it and it comes out again without too much pressure in the forward half.
and for love of god just because someone disagrees in a situation where neither player is setting the world on fire it would be nice to just accept the different views.
as it is I am worried enough about this game - we are struggling and their form is bad but not terrible - they only lost to the cats by 30 at KP and richmond had only lost by a goal or so there - they have a good forward who is kicking a lot of goals and a decent enough defence.Comment

Actually for what it is worth stella I'm with you. LRT has much love for being a "star" in one game in 2005. i dont think he has shown anything this year and the idea that he tries his heart out simply is not enough for me. so did bevo.

Let's be civil, we're all Swans supporters.Comment

Can't afford to rest players and more importantly can't afford to give players a run in the seniors before they have earnt it. Playing the best 22 creates competition amongst the group and gives the best ressies a reason to strive for selection. Knowing they are getting rotated in regardless of performance will create apathy in the 2's.
Melbourne have obviously been horrible but there have been big fluctuations in form this year including the swans. We were premiership material 2 weeks ago beaten by a fair side (Adelaide) then beaten by an average side (Richmond) I don't want the trend to continue to beaten by a poor side.
Whatever fancy new trends are happening in coaching OS, at other clubs or wherever we need to field our best 22 until we are guaranteed a top 4 finish. Just because new coaches are trying things doesn't mean they work and last I looked Chris Scott and Brett Ratten don't coach at the Swans.Comment
