Any ressies watchers know when Spang might be ready to play? I'd love to see him instead of Reid; let him get form in the ressies. St Kilda will be a tough beat next week and even tougher if our 'main' forward cannot contribute.

Can't agree with you swansprincess....Reid is not far off it....took a few great grabs....two really good shots for goal (one fell short but was straight at the umpire) and one good one (Which just missed from long range)....also did quite few nice little clean-ups at ground level - including one for the first goal....3 score assists in fact if you check the stats....

Spang is not far off - he ran well and presented pretty well. He was generally a pretty potent forward and it was good to see that his hands were sticky. Not far off but not next week, given our performance tonight.

Ps I'm officially on the Tom Mitchell bandwagon after seeing him today - look out...

Each to their own. I just think he's been out of form for a while now, this was his chance to play himself into something against the worst team in the league. I don't think he'll be dropped though and I'll be more than happy to eat my words if he plays a blinder next week, but as far as I see it if we lose any more games because of our lack of forward line, Reid playing poorly has to take a lot of that blame.

any chance, in your personal opinion he could be able to play the essendon game in 3 weeks? I'll be going to that one and I just really love watching Spang play. The guys all heart.
Hearing all this mitchell talk I'm pretty darn excited to see him get some action some time. You do have to wonder though, barring injuries, who would make way..

We were at the Rising Sun, had a great time.
Our midfield was back to its best. Granted, the opposition was pretty woeful, but we took our chances and kept applying pressure for the whole match. Jack, JPK, Parker and Hanners just shone.
The back six were their usual reliable solid selves, despite the occasional lapse.
The forward set-up was very encouraging. Walsh had a good debut, showed great determination, put in 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts, has size, hands and while not lightning fast has enough speed for the job. He will only improve. LRT had a good game, is obviously a better footballer than Jesse, more versatile, harder at the ball and knows where to go. TDL was also good and while he may still be learning his defensive role, his attacking role is among our best. Jetts is now a reliable contributor every week, and when not kicking goals he chases hard and uses the ball well in the field, also positions himself well. McGlynn had one of his better games. ROK was a steadying influence; his mark and goal was a delight to watch. Reid showed signs of working himself into some form.
Again, I know it was only Melbourne, but there were some encouraging signs in today's lineup. And we had the luxury of using a player as good as Bird in the sub role - icing on the cake.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Melbourne are diabolically bad. It's hard to see what on earth Neeld can do with that pack.

Anyway on to us. Very very very happy to see Sammy with a bit of a role change and spending time at HB and on the wing. Did him the world of good and looked like a different player in the last qtr.
Hanners, Parker and Jack were super today. Dan's running is incredible.
Thought Pyke did ok against quality opponent. Jamar is a super player. Can't wait for Mummy to be back. He looks at a bit thin but said at the aftermatch he is running and hopes to be back for the Doggies. Might be a bit ambitious but I'll be happy if that's true.
Very glad to see Marty kick a big one! Anyone thing he has anything to worry about with that late contest?
Forward line improving. Much better with TDL and McGlynn who know how to keep moving and presenting. Sam and Tommy both are a bit static.
Anyway a good night for Swans fans.

Obviously you weren't at the game? Sam had a much better game and was playing up the ground more for a fair chunk of it. While I like the Spang, I think we need to keep Reid in the team. With Walsh and TDL in the forward line tonight, things look far more structured.

Yeah so am I! Five handballs to set up the play all the way down field in one play for a goal was awesome! one H/B stuffed up but he got it back and slipped out a beauty and was aware enough to be in the right place for the next give. I thought a few players had good ones in the Two's! Nipper, Jesse, Spang, Biggs and Armstrong all played well as well as Mitch. The young toppie Ruckman was really good for a raw kid! Big and mobile as well as a very good tap ruck!!! I think a draft is in the wind for next year!

Sam played a true CHF today and had the commission to roam to the CHB line. Tommy, LRT and Pykie alternated at FF. I liked Tommy's first game and one Melbourne player is very lucky he got missed by a millimetre by Tommy in full flight. Phew! He was going to clean that kid up like a tram hits a balloon sack! TDL did some awesome things today! Those goals from the boundary for a start but for me it was that tap while in the middle of two demons players to Jetts for a goal was just sensational. Play of the year so far for me! I liked Pykie in the ruck & I must admit LRT was good in the ruck today and did play on Jaymar at times. I loved Kizza, ROK, Lukie, Hannas, Jetts, Joey, Bennie (was better for having more small options), Bolts, Marty!!! Love Marty! There has been a bit of talk here about the backline but after all the Dees kicked all of 5.7, twelve scoring shots! Parker is ****ing awasome the way he gets the ball out of a pack! I liked the way Mitch went about it in the Two's too, not much different! They are one day going to be the Terrifying Twosome to all other clubs!

You wouldn't think Shaw would be under pressure because he does give us run from the backline.

How do we think Smith is going since his ear problem?
Was not impressed with some of Mal's delivery or Shaws for that matter. Macca went through a patch in the second where he was @@@@e at hitting targets (normally one of the best). The ones that did all game were the younger players. ROK was best of the older players to hit targets every time! Loved the forward movement. So much nicer to have a variety of options all presenting rather than having to rely on only one or two. Think of this!

At any given time today we had three tall options, one mid size and two small crumbers. Wow and did we crumb, Benny, Kizza, Lukie, Macca, TDL even. Beautiful! I liked the way Tommy Walsh went about his first game!

Thanks Wolfie for sharing your observations. Very informative and interesting. I think the only players you haven't covered are Teddy, Reg, AJ and Smithy!

Ted was awesome once again, Reg was pissed at someone in the last quarter. If not for 50m penalties, how many goals would they have kicked? Not to worry, we'll be more disciplined when it really matters

Yep coach of the Roosters as Wardy mentioned. He's really good at trimming the fat, removing egos and laying the building blocks of a good club. The biggest slight on him is his inability to win a premiership, but I still think fundamentally he is a good coach.

Some coaches can take a good team and make them great, while others can build teams that will be great. As a Roosters supporter it is like comparing Ricky Stuart to Smith.
