It's natural for people to often feel cranky/annoyed/whatever after we lose, and matchday threads can be a bit overblown sometimes, but this site is so worth it when there is good quality analysis of games/players/playing styles etc. I get the most out of those posts that discuss certain tactical things that I wouldn't be able to see myself, or provide interesting views on particular players' strengths/weaknesses etc. Although I am from an AFL family and have played the game myself as a youngster (ie I'm not exactly new to the game), I learn so much from this site when people discuss tactics etc. There are small number of posts here that can be pretty disrespectful, rude or downright mean, but as Chilcott stated the moderators are keeping an eye on these. I am trying not to get sucked in by these comments but instead focussing on continuing to discuss the game and our team and its players with the passionate, knowledgable and likeminded people here on RWO...Comment

Well put Jewels.
Opinions can be negative or positive and it doesn't worry me either way. However, I can understand why people would not post due to nastiness or demeaning posts.
Luckily, the very nice people who monitor the comments, are quick to come down on most of those sorts of comments.
And I've had my say again here.Comment

we should be bloody excited, lost in the semis the last 2 years, now we finally have a double chance. If you told me we would finish 3rd at the start of the year I would take that.
3 of the losses (crows hawks pies) combine to be 20 points in total, thats an extra goal in a bit in each game and we win all 3, simmonds is bloody hard to win at, who thought we would win in round 23 when we saw the draw? I thought unlikely.
The negative posts and so on arent helped by the media who seem to always look for ways to say that this side over achieves or is found wanting against quality opposition, dont listen to that @@@@, this forum should be full of excited fans watching our side have a tilt at a flag yet again, remember how crap this team was for so long, lets go smash the crows.Theres not much left to sayComment

Out there - there might be 250,000 people who follow the swans reasonably closely, of which about 30,000 are passionate enough to become members. of those 30,000 members about 3000 are crazy enough about their club that they are prepared to regularly log in to websites, and maybe as many as 300 who are crazy enough to post regularly.
we are talking less than 1% of the members who are regularly posting and about 1 in every 1000 swans fans.
that creates a particular dynamic - it makes us the most obsessive, most compulsive element of the swans supporter base. and we are not unique - this is the case with respect to internet fans whether they be the boston red sox, west ham united or the fan boys of apple.
i for one love the discussions when they are about what is going wrong and what is going right. i have been a member but for one season for about 17 years. at the time i became a member i could very easily have been selected in a swans team. now i look at the team and laugh at just how young they are - and even the older players are years younger than me. as such i cant look up to them as my heroes. but every weekend i am so proud when they give their all that they are my team. i have been so lucky that over that time frame i have been able to transfer my respect from players like kelly and dunkley to bolton and fosdike and now hannerbury and nick smith. these guys give their all alkl the time. they may not win but the club has been full of leaders who believe in giving their all every week even where they are not the most talented.
swans fills my winter obsession and at this time of year i look reasonably closely at all of our posts...i respect everyone's opinions and i may be incredibly critical of the players at times. but that doesnt change anything for me - i have been happier with them in some games - such as carlton in (2008 ?) where we went into half time at etihad stadium with a lead and trying our guts out in circumstances where we clearly were not the better team and were having a terrible season.
at the end of the day you should not say anything on an internet site which you arent willing to say to someone face to face - and even then you should think twice. we are obsessves in this together - we share a common ailment and there is no cure...Comment

people have to remember how weird the average internet fan is.

I have said the bold statement a few times. And it is very true.
I have 2 concerns for abusive and/or denigrating posts.
1) How the person who the comment is aimed at will react. More abuse. Leave the site. worse.
2) how the general populous who aren't regulars view RWO. Your quality posts are our best marketing tool.
If your post is moderated it's not for the fun of it.Comment
