Pyke is a better tap ruckman than Mumford

    There...I said it.

Was easily the best ruckman on the ground vs the Dogs. Some of his taps to space that picked out a Swan in the clear were simply marvellous. While not as good as Mumford around the ground, his chasing, brutal tackling and presence, trademarks of Mumford, are around the Mumford mark.

He is a good kick too....I don't know why he handballs as much as he does...but it seems to work.

Can't see how he could be dropped after that performance. We finally have two effective ruckman who could negate any ruck combo in the league, without losing out around the ground.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Yeah they make a great duo. Pyke is versatile enough to be really effective forward too. Wish he was younger!!

No doubt we should continue to play them both, when Mummy went forward he drew Lake, probably will usually get one of the best defenders, certainly the tallest, frees up Reid TDL and LRT

        Umm... no.
I really like playing two proper ruckmen, especially whilst Mumford is getting back up to speed. But i struggle to think of Mike as more than a handy 2nd ruck. However that may well make him bettet than Seaby.

          I don't think he is.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I don't think he is better but he's certainly good enough. We should absolutely be playing both until form or injuries dictate otherwise.

                Good pack breaker

I don't mind Pyke up forward. He just charges at the football and breaks up the packs. Makes life easier for Reid, TDL and co. Also good to give mummy a rest in the ruck. Some of his taps where not bad, especially that one to Kieran Jack in the first quarter where he got that gaol. Only negative his his handballs are still a bit slow. Needs to speed them up a little.

I like playing the two big fellas. Both are fast around the ground. I also like resting the ruckman in the forward line. Far more effective than resting them on the bench.

Pyke was very good yesterday (Minson did have more hitouts though), but he was outpointed by Jason Blake the week before.

It would be nice if we could put Seaby, Pyke, LRT and White in a blender and get a combination of them all as our second ruckman. Each of them individually have significant flaws in that role.

I've always been partial to Pyke because of his back story, but am genuinely surprised (and proud) when I see him tap cleanly, crash a pack or spot up a lead (something I think he's more capable of doing than his reluctance to kick suggests).

His game against North last year in Canberra is burned in my mind. He was marking and kicking (for goal) beautifully before being cruelled by injury

I think he will play again this week Pyke as there surely is still concerns about Mummy (and the opportunity to work him back into fitness with a bye to come next week surely won't be ignored by the club), but I'm not sure with a fully fit Mummy there is a spot for him. Which is a real shame, as I love big Mike and what he has done in his time in the game - always gives 100% and you can never say the effort is not there, and he has become a very good quality tap ruckman to go with it.

Good tap. Better tackler IMO - looks gentle when he caresses them to the ground but they stay tackled with seemingly no risk of Mike being reported (unlike Mummy, whose brute force can be frightening). Mike is faster in a sprint. And his kicking isn't bad (just needs more confidence). Reading the play Mummy's the winner IMO, that is a significant advantage. But with the twin towers both on song at the same time? A brutal physical force that would scare the bejesus out of most oppositions & be a hard match-up on (especially if they also have to contend with the height & athleticism of Goodsey & Sammy Reid at the same time. Tall order for most oppositions (pun intended)

Listening to Longmires post match -he pretty much said once Mumfords fit they'll play one ruckman...or that's how I interpreted it anyway.

I'm in no way saying he's a better ruckman, just a better tap.

The tap out to Jack for goal a few games ago reminded of one he did for a similar result on the weekend. The quality of his hit-outs to advantage are superior.
