So glad to see that most posters have concentrated on the positives here. We beat a top team in Melbourne and killed 'em for 3 quarters!

Anyone who's a little disappointed that we blew a 3 quarter time 47 point lead and only won by 4 points, go to the Swans website and watch the players sing the song after the game. They were stoked and so am I!

Watched the replay this arvo and he took one bite and dropped it. It was paid a mark and not knocking the arms.

Jack picked up the ball in front of goal in those dying minutes and got a heavy front on tackle. Was just lifting his head and got it right on top of the bonce; no free of course.

On the radio, whatever station it was, said that Davey will be in trouble for the head high hit on Hanners. No free which was hard to believe.

Essendon got the run of the ball. On one occasion Shaw had the ball go through his legs at a contest. A couple of times the ball did a leg/off break on our player. The ball came out of group of players straight to an Essendon player etc.etc.

But big Mike really clunked it by walking in front of the mark. Should have left it to Kennedy and run down the ground, then again Kennedy may have called him onto the mark.

Armstrong played a big part in the way we attacked in the first half and hopefully can fill a void for Mal who sadly has lost all confidence.Great game by Dan Hannerbury who's subbing really hurt us,Craig Bird seems to fly under the radar alot but i think he had about 12 contested possesions out of his 24 last night, Fantatstic effort!!

armstrong will take a few weeks to get back up to senior AFL speed. I thought Hannerbury was quite poor before being subbed off. I dont think it hurt us much, but Mal didnt do much. I think we need a new approach to the sub (see other thread). Bird is good. Its a pity the game has moved to speed. If we were playing 2005 style, Bird would be a star. (could easily replace Ben Matthews. !)

Am watching the replay now we were out on our feet in the last. But we clung on. Jude Bolton never gave up he just gets better. The only thing I like about the bombers is Jobe Watson - he's a class act. Jetta & Keiran back each other up beautifully. I noticed a numbrt of "hand In the back" that were obvious but werent paid to us yet the bombers got theirs. Still it was karma in the end - Dempsey played on, the hooter went - happy days!!!!

Yep, Fletcher gave LRT a double push in the back over the boundary right in front of an ump.

But Sam Reid fell over twice in the contest late in the game and they whisked it away.

How close did Jetta come to deftly tap the ballback away from Hardingham in the forward pocket late in the game? His skill is superb. That would have been the goal of the day if it came off. Got his hand to but it looked like it just came off Hardingham's leg.

Didnt Hird win the Brownlow in 1996?

Yep - he did. 21 votes (seven from last three rounds). Shared with Voss, and Corey McKernan polled the same (but was ineligible due to suspension). But there were ten or so players within four votes of winning that year, so you would hardly argue he was a dominant winner, and certainly he had better seasons than that one in later years. I'm still comfortable with my description of him at that stage of his career, and that his best was still ahead of him.

The chips question is an easy one mate - totally geography related! That and gouge your market to the level you think they can bear!

So why are the chips at ANZ the same price as the SCG? Hmm...love a good conspiracy theory.

Im far more worried about McVeigh's contested marking. Has he taken a contested mark this year? Seems to be easily pushed off, and goes to ground to easily.

I don't think contested marking needs to be seen as a weakness with these 2. McVeigh is playing a negating role on players his size so he is doing the spoiling. Both he and Jetta have slight builds so I see it better we improve and play to their strengths, rather than concentrate on a part of their game that is of less consequence.

Channel 7 didn't show the Davey Hanners "hit" enough times and in slow motion to see if Davey did catch him high. But from what they showed, it looked like most of the contact was to the shoulder. I realise Hanners was concussed but that could have been partly a whiplash type reaction and partly his head hitting the ground. In any case, it looked more like a collision than a deliberate bump. I'd be disappointed if one of our players got suspended for that (albeit that some have been suspended for much less!)

I would argue that it was not a planned change. The biggest difference is that we could not win the clearances. Horse said during the telecast that it was not the plan to lose the clearances. It is true that Parker, Goodes and McGlynn get six-and-a-bit clearances a game. But Bolton, O?Keefe, Hannebery, Kennedy and Bird were under their averages. I don?t think you plan on that to happen. I think what happened was we applied good pressure, our defence played brilliantly, and our rebounders were on song. So despite getting crushed in the midfield, we reacted well enough to win, reacted being the important word. Though, reasonable minds will probably differ on this point.

What is exciting for me, is that there is no reason why we can?t do both. It is possible for us to win more clearances and keep the rebounding effectiveness because Goodes and McGlynn should add to the run with Parker not losing too much. And if we get that going, we will win the flag.

I think Horse had to react to Fridays obvious this week it's HTB and we don't want scrums rule interpretations. He deliberately moved players out of teh congestion and around the stoppage, so that win or lose the stoppage, we covered the exits, and had space to move

On the replay it was clearly high and Hanners was gone before he hit the deck. If the MRP is consistent he is in a bit of trouble whether it was deliberate or not. He had the pill and was in a crouched position.

Really!?! You mean you get HOT chips at the footy?!?! I reckon you could microwave your coles chips at home and bring em with you. It doesn't matter where you live*, there's a chance they'd be as warm as what you get at the ground. . .

* - hey - just checked your name mate - even all the way from the gong, your chips are a chance to be in a better state than those on sale at the ground!
