"Another incident discussed was the 50m penalty awarded against Swan Sam Reid for over-running the mark following a Corey Enright grab on centre wing in the fourth quarter.
The penalty resulted in Enright kicking a goal from 40m to give the Cats the lead.
However, Gieschen said it was a wrong decision.
He said Enright had moved off the mark and Reid had every right to pressure his opponent.
"Because the umpire hadn't called play-on, the Sydney player was not obliged to cross," Gieschen said.
"The correct thing in that situation would have been for our umpire to call [play] on immediately Enright went around his mark."
Gieschen admitted it was a harsh penalty and said he called the Swans to apologise.
"We can't apologise [for] every error because we make a number of errors every week, but certainly in some games there are big errors we need to get on the front foot and call the club about," he said."
