Yep, we were carrying a dew there toward the end, some of our blokes just not fit enough. The Cats played well to get us there, but great fight from the boys and what a great goal from AEveritt. Just lucky we started so well I guess

Tough call on the fitness. When the chips were down we found something from deep down. We appeared to control the game for the last 3 minutes of game time. We were headed twice and looked gone. ROK was outstanding in the last quarter and McVeigh really stepped up in last 5 minutes. It was also coming off the bye and I don't reckon we have won after the bye for a long time. It was the reigning premiers we played.

We have done in the last 2 games what we have failed to do in the past few years; beat top teams when it mattered. (except Geelong at Geelong in 2011)

No question Goodes was underdone. He said after the game the plan was for him to play 70 minutes, but the rest of the mob finished the game off well. It appeared Mummy was underdone but he was quoted during the week that he was running into fitness.

I can't believe Teddy didn't get a mention in the AFL best players list. I thought he was good all night but sensational in the last quarter. His efforts to lift the team by example were as inspirational as some of Goodseys best.

Agreed - Teddy was awesome tonight and should have been in the best. I liked Mike Pykes game tonight too - he did well.

Glad we fought that one out - could be a big win in the context of the season...

Just back from the game.

We played a wonderful first quarter, reminiscent of the first three quarters against Essendon, and the second half against Hawthorn.

This team can indeed play sharp, brilliant - and it must be said - premiership standard football - but only in patches. We're yet to see it over four quarters.

As far as personnel is concerned, Everitt kicked the match winner. Didn't he do something similar against the Eagles at Subiaco last year? His composure under immense pressure got us over the line. He proved the right choice as sub; we got four points out of him.

But the forward line is obviously weak. Surely there is a place for a natural forward like TDL? Who else is there on the list? I think we're basically a key forward away from being genuine contenders.

As for the size of the crowd - 27,400 - it was basically only a couple of thousand more than last year, when it was raining. Nowhere near a sellout and there were plenty of empty seats near me in the Trumper stand, where the members are seated. What does it take to get our Sydney members to show up these days?

Was strange and bartel wasn't mentioned either, thought he was close to BOG.

Thought Teddy was good, really good and got a few doubtful frees paid against him early in the second.
The whole back line was fantastic. I have to praise Shaw for providing run but there were times when his man got loose and it was costly. But I though AJ was sensational as well.

Loved the ruck combo just pivotal for us doing so well in the first quarter and a goal in the third. Both boys were fabulous tonight.

Jack is sensational! Jettstar just the best! Armstrong was wonderful, his delivery is great.

The Umpiring sucked BIG TIME!!!!!!

I just want to know why we start a game with a wonderful game plan to run the ball and kick to point and then in the remaining three quarters just bomb the ball to packs.

It's been many years since I've logged into the RWO forum, having lived in Europe since 2004. (I had Swans membership from 1995-2004 - and never missed going to the ground for a Swans match in my city in that time - and I managed to spark them to a flag by not renewing my membership. You're welcome...) So of course I've had major withdrawal symptoms.

But this year watching matches live on the internet has become practical and fun and I've managed to catch all of the Swans matches, albeit the Geelong match during lunchtime at work today.

The Swans still seem to generate heartstoppers, although recently it's not been the usual fightbacks, rather stopping the others fighting back. I think the wins against Essendon and Geelong were somewhat surprising, but very good results, despite the "interruptions in performance" shall we say.

I don't think I have any great observations that others haven't already posted, but I agree it was a better game from Pyke than usual. Ted Richards and Kieren Jack really played well in the pressure moments. Everitt's goal was awesome and my fellow office-workers got to hear my reaction quite clearly. I was surprised TDL was dropped for this match and suspect he'll be back soon.

Gee, just noticed I haven't posted since October 2007 and have 388 posts. Thought it was going to say 13 posts or something like that. I had no idea I'd posted so often here. :-o

And to stay on topic, that 50 metre decision in Geelong's favour was pretty rough!

Teddy was BOG; Spangher in for LRT; Bolton was great in the first quarter - he's driven our best play this year; good on Everitt; great kicking AJ.

I thought this game - or the reasons for the Geelong come-back - were a little different to the Essendon game. As much as anything it was a very experienced and smart team finding a way to work through the structures that Sydney had in place and wrest back control. The structural issues in our forward line also became more apparent as the game wore on and Geelong started to make it far harder for Sydney to cut them up on the rebound out of defence. Unlike the Bombers game last quarter, where we could barely get our hands on the ball, I thought we had plenty of opportunities today in the final term but all the smaller players were sucked so far up the ground that long kicks into our forward line were just getting no result. We definitely could have done with a TDL in there today, at the expense of one of the taller players.

In terms of stand-out players, Shaw and Ted were brilliant for us today. Shaw was the architect of so much of the defensive rebound and the run and carry through the middle. While Ted was just wonderful. He got outmarked in some one-on-one strength contests against Podsiadly, but the way he backed himself to play in front, and intercept kicks forward was just fantastic. His final quarter performance was matchwinning.
