It could well happen - particularly the way that the comments were worded - I would be surprised if Andrew had not read the recent appraisals of the cost of living in Sydney that have been in the press. This seems more like the AFL preparing to defend the allowances to the media and other clubs, rather than decreasing or eliminating it.

Last time the work was done it was around 15%.
This work has been done many times and come back with the same answer, so will get put to bed pretty fast. Real incomes are lower in Sydney it's a fact
Nothing to worry aboutYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

I like the idea that someone floated of putting the COL in the AFL's hands to administer on our behalf. Should be no change to the current set up (hopefully they'd continue to slightly over-allocate to Rookies) and would shut up the whingers, who would be forced to complain about something else when we go back-to-back next year....Comment

Swans have facts to back allowance
Interesting the Swans are quoting the median?
I suppose the Vaucluse super mansions must skew that more than the mean.
Or did the journo fail year 7 maths?Comment

This issue always seems to re-surface when we're having on-field success. The clubs agreed to this allowance prior to it being implemented noting that it was more expensive to live in Sydney. Nothings changed other than we have the 2012 premiership.....and due mainly to great recruitment decisions over recent years. The availability of Kurt Tippett and with us being reigning premiers has left a sour taste in our opponents mouths. They forget that it has been many years since we have made a major signing and that recent retirements/trades/delistings has created the room to bring in a big name player...if not this year, then next year. How is Dale Thomas and Lance Franklin doing by the way?
If there is a group that deserves a photo taken with the 2012 cup its our recruitment team......well done guys!!..and may our 2012 draft crop be as fruitful.Comment

There are 2 problems here for the AFL:
1. Only the 2 Sydney teams get a cost-of-living allowance; and
2. They admit it hasn't been reviewed in 5 years
The best way to take the heat out of this issue is for the AFL to set up a cost-of-living schedule for every AFL club, based on an annual independent index (e.g. Aust Bureau of Stats publishes cost of living by city). The clubs in the lowest cost city get zero additional allowance and all the others get an allowance directly proportional to how much high the cost of living is according to the ABS index. I have no problem with Perth teams getting an allowance on this basis while there is a mining boom inflating their cost of housing. Reviewing it every year will make sure it stays fair.
Under this scheme, most of the teams whinging now (Adelaide and Brisbance in particular) will realise they were doing quite well only being 9.8% behind Sydney.CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"
