I actually went to the same school (St.Bernards Judes school) as Matty and he scored very well in English for VCE (not sure it was not without help) so i wouldn't have thought he would need a ghost writer. Hard to tell when you see him umming and ahhing on TV.Comment

Not a bad article. Not sure we really have the forward class to go all the way, but Reid is improving from week to week and if Goodes plays well we are as good a chance as most.
Longmire has definitely changed the way we play but these types of article rarely give credit to Roos, who after all was the one who recruited Rohan and Jetta. I think he recognized that we needed more run and carry and was laying the foundations for the next assault on the flag.Comment

Did he? I thought that was the role of the recruiting team. How much specific input did he have. He recruited Lyons.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

Very good point about Roos, it's almost like he could see the game a few years ahead and recruited accordingly, of course without Kinnear we might have stumbled. Goodes can only get better the more he plays, the older u get the longer it takes to wind up and with Parks to come back in, we just need to keep healthy and we're a chance"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

That's a very complimentary read about the boys by Lloydy. For what its worth I reckon Longmire has developed a mental toughness about the group as well improved their skill level dramatically (better than the 2005 n 2006 group)."He was proud of us when we won and he was still proud of us when we lost' Tami Roos about Paul Sept 06.Comment

Tough question here. If Longmire takes us to a flag, will he be considered a better coach than Paul Roos? In my opinion the media will see him as better because we're more direct under Longmire.Comment

Both had adversity, but Roos perhaps will be remembered more fondly. He really did make this team something special; a team that you can find pride in supporting, a team that is widely respected. That's rare let me assure you. Being a supporter of another team in another code that has given me that much trauma, false hope, disappointment and embarrassment in the same time that the Swans have given me a premiership, a bag of finals appearances and most importantly, a collection of young men who have quite adequately represented their forebearers and most passionate supporters - it has really taught me to value the nature of this club and the people within it.
John, if he does snatch a premiership this year, will be lauded widely for the achievement and for his ability to breathe life into our team and our gameplan. However he will have to do quite a bit more if he want to reach the mythical heights of the 'Sundance Kid' Roos.
I do like him though and always have. They may be others on this board who'll have a bit of egg on their face for lambasting him in his first season given his stellar work this year. Patience is a virtue people.Comment

I think any coach takes time to build a group and develop a game plan into the playing group. I believe we can thank the seamless transition from Roos to LOngmire, and the long apprenticeship Horse served, which made it possible for Roos to go to the bench to coach, because he had a capable senior coach in the box, and knew it. Compare Roos to Ratten on teh sideline, it's a no contest, probably because ratten doesn't have the kind of backup Roos hadYou can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment
