Big thanks to Longmile, Jono2707 and Jewels for sticking up for civility on this forum.
Dirtyburt - you can question my "nonsense" all you like, in fact the real fun is when points of view are argued with conviction. Differences in our opinions are not an issue. You just don't have to be rude about it. You CAN be, but you don't need to be. And in case you're wondering which bit was rude, this bit... "I am guessing your forte is not ruck contests?" I believe that's called "playing the man and not the ball". Also, this bit... "silly schoolboy song". Totally accurate, but still rude.
To respond to a few of your on topic points:
1) I never said put TDL in the ruck. That would be silly. When one player (let's say Player A) is taken out of the side, sometimes they replace that player with a player (Player B) in a different position, and move a player who was already in the side (let's say Player LRT) into the role previously undertaken by Player A (the injured guy).
2) I said we'd be OK with Pyke and LRT in the ruck for this game, and improvise as required. The FOR THIS GAME is important. I agree that this would be a silly strategy in the longer term. Most teams have to improvise ruck duties on occasion, don't they? Isn't that's what makes it so tricky? You can't carry a list full of ruckmen who never get a game, so when one gets injured, you have to improvise. As someone else pointed out, we have a few handy players that can pick up ruck duties if needed at the odd clearance. Obviously, that's still just my opinion.
3) I didn't offer the TDL song as way of explanation as to why I'd like him in. It was just a bit of fun. Sorry about that. Obviously people wanting to know his name isn't any kind of basis for AFL team selection.
3a) I don't believe there is any obligation to provide an explanation for opinions on here. Many people submit posts that are just names, or indeed, just "LRT". If you want an explanation, you can always ask. When/if one is subsequently provided, please refer to my first paragraph addressed to you.
BillyRayCypress - the reason people like to add emoticons is because they're a great way to avoid misunderstandings when posting something meant as a joke, or a friendly dig, rather than a serious comment or criticism. Many posters use them to build rapport so that they can exchange ideas and opinions with a certain degree of familiarity. In my opinion, they're a useful addition to online communication, but if you don't like them, don't use them. There is no need to belittle posters who attempt be clear as to the tone of their posts. Again, you CAN if you want to, but there is really no need. Also, jumping on board with someone else's mean posts is just as bad as starting them yourself. I am not using any emoticons in this post because I mean it in all seriousness.
Let me be clear, none of this hurt my feelings, but you don't have to be upset to recognise nastiness. And the others who commented on it are right - it does offend some people and drive them away from this site. It certainly diminishes my enjoyment of it, at least as much when I'm not involved as when I am.Superman still wears Brett Kirk PyjamasComment

I agree totally Kirkari. Everyone here has the right to an opinion no matter what without being denigrated by other posters. Your opinions are as valid as anyone's even if I don't always agree with people I don't denigrate them or be rude to them. I just agree to disagree and sometimes with strong feeling but that is a part of footy. Because I disagree with somebody it doesn't mean I don't believe in their right to have an opinion and respect their opinion it just means that mine is disparate to theirs.
I respect every poster's opinion and look at all the posts closely but sometimes I am definitely upset at the tenet of posts when they denigrate or are rude or hurtful to individuals.Comment

I forgot my reason for being in this post in the first place. I am glad to see TDL & Lukie back and I hope they each play well and enjoy their call up. Jesse & Tony Armstrong must have also been close as they both played well last week in the Two's.Comment

That bloody vest. I've said it before that there is no point playing TDL as a near the end of the game sub. He seems to me a pure forward that needs to feel how the ball is coming in. Not running around like a headless chook trying to make an impact, especially if he's on borrowed time. Bird for mine.Comment

I have a feeling that Longmire might just want to get some good game time into both these boys so the sub will probably go to someone else. Don't be shocked if it is a player who we least expect. It could even go to someone like AJ etcComment

No wonder some people don't bother with this site so much any more. Posting stuff that is either a direct attack on people that post here, or an indirect attack on those who would prefer to see a bit more decency shown on here, does absolutely nothing for those of us that like to use this forum for a good, intelligent and often fun forum about the team we all love so much.
I believe there were recent reminders on the rules that should be followed on this site. I would suggest that anyone that finds it too difficult to follow these guidelines on common decency should take whatever is bugging them elsewhere.
Instead everyone gets overly sensitive and personal then goes completely off track.
So Jono and Kirkari, I have no idea what you're on about.with the direct and indirect attacks.
Football forums are an avenue of expression for people that usually know very little about the game, have even less personal involvement in it but feel that their passion gives them the right to comment on it anyway. Oh I like that, we did that come from?
So post away but excuse those of us who are involved in the development of the game to have a laugh every now and again at your seriousness. I'm too busy involved in the game to spend time posting who my best 22 players are. That's why we have a coaching panel for that job.
So now that I have responded to comments directed at me, of which I was not offended about, it is good to have Parker finally back in the team.
It will be interesting to see how TDL goes with this call up. Hopefully he will go well and although he does not have the skill or run of someone like Rohan, he has in the past shown that he can rise to the challenge. I think the criticism of his defence were particularly harsh considering others were just as bad at the time.
Jesse is the first emergency so I don't think anyone should be playing the Last Post on his football career yet.Last edited by BillyRayCypress; 26 July 2012, 07:49 PM.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

I imagine Parker might get the bench warming role after being out for so long.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

Great, nor should it, after all it's a footy site where you argue your point. That is what fan footy sites are all about.
So, back to discussing the footy;
Pleased for TDL hope he is not the sub. Great to see Parker back in the fold also.Comment
