There was no wine in my thermos Saturday night but a concoction that looked remarkably like coffee but it had quite theIrish creamy butterscotch schnapps Flavour to it and numbed my bits from top to toe- so, in theory, I didn't care where I was!! although I did get Whiney when Adam kicked the ball OOBOTF at the end.

So thats why it was being passed around like a ladel at a soup kitchen.

that's right I'd hv offered you some but you were sick and you were driving along way - and we re named it "the Nelson" in homage to our recent vacation up to Nelson Bay with the other members of the unholy trinity.

Since the beginning of the 2008 AFL season the Swans have won four of their 13 games against top eight sides at ANZ Stadium at a success rate of 30.7 percent.

In the same period the Swans have won six of their 18 games against top eight opponents at the SCG at a success rate of 33.3 percent.

Against all teams, the Swans have won 10 of 19 games at ANZ Stadium over the last five years.

Homebush took a whack in afl 360 the other night. Poor surface, terrible stadium etc. huddo in particular was saying how unfair in swans to have to play finals there, no homeground advantage and what a fantastic footy ground the scg is.

Saw that - it was pretty telling coming from those two - neither really had much nice to say about the place. I agreed with them too...

I know this is a forum for discussion, but we should really just sunset the topic. Until the contract is renegotiated, finals + other blockbuster games will always be at ANZ, especially so during SCG construction. Surface appeared improved, the game v Collingwood was much closer and we really could have won it. Overall I don't mind the venue, I usually get OK seats and the food is better at ANZ than SCG. A faster train out there would be better, but most importantly the venue doesn't appear to have a negative effect on the Swans. I know O'Keefe was livid last time about finding a metal peg or something or other, but I'm sure the venue will ensure it never happens again.

SCG is great but there's no way they'd fit 48,000 there for a H&A game v Collingwood ever and the club needs the revenue so yeah. A financially sound club is also important.

The majority of Swans and NRL fans don't want to play games there but until it becomes financially advantageous to return to the traditional home grounds on a full time basis we're stuck with playing games at Homebush. I just hope that when the SCG is finished we can make a case that a 50,000 seat stadium is more than adequate for all Swans games including finals.

How good would that 45,000 the other night looked at a refurbished SCG. The mouth waters thinking about it.

Yes, it will be great when we can play all big games at the scg. The hawks sell out, even with the stands down, will be a fantastic atmosphere.

I am interested to know, if anyone really believes we would not have matched the 45k against the pies, same circumstances (lead up, weather etc) if the game would have been played at the scg with stands completed?

                      Hypothetical, I know, just interested.

I'm not sure of the capacity of the SCG, but if it could hold 45k it would be awesome. I love the SCG but it is capacity-constrained. And if we do get 70k to finals then that'd be freaking awesome as well.

The scg capacity was 45k-46k with the renos the figure is around 48k.

I would love 70k crowds, they rarely happen though. Once in h&a, once in a final. Both these crowds were in 2003.

Place is lousy for watching footy. Most seats are either (a) obstructed view, or (b) miles away from the ground on poorly rising deep seating bays.

Surface still crap, but better than it has been in years (and not as bad as the sandpit at Etihad).

Beer served from the bar under aisle 105 tasted like there was soap in the lines (and that was before the result made things taste even worse)!
Yep, IMO it would be more of a home final for them if we were to play them at ANZ! We would be much much more of a chance to beat them at the SCG, our 'home' ground and I still think we would of won the other night if the game was at the SCG, but we will never know. I just fear we could go out in straight sets because of having to play at ANZ, where is the advantage??

If we can only draw 45k against the biggest drawing club in the comp while we're on top of the ladder I couldn't imagine we'd draw 70k to a final.

Sadly, I agree, 2003 was an anomaly, typical Sydney. New ground (for afl) new experience ( and not a good one). The interested sydneysiders, have now been there, done that.
