Poor effort from Birdy - all the others who didn't contribute a goal at least have the excuse of playijng primarily in defence. (Though I 'spose Malceski wanders far enough up the ground to be almost a mid at times.)

On a more serious note, what is the average number of goal kickers we have had per game this year? What we lose by not having a dominant forward capable of regularly kicking bags, we certainly gain by spreading it around. Without going back and counting, I suspect there's not been more than a couple of games where we've had fewer than 10 goal kickers.

You guys/gals are amazing in getting these stats. This would be a good one for Roos for on the couch. With the Swans not having a player anywhere near contention for the Coleman it would indicate that we are the benchmark in this stat as well. GO THE SWANNIES.

An article in The Age a little time ago said we had the best spread of goalkickers of any team.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

No Bird was pretty good, just was the only non back to not score a goal.

Can anyone explain these stats to me? What I find particularly confusing is that, according to these, we rank 10th and 9th in the league for points scored and conceded (differentials?). And yet the AFL ladder tells me that we've conceded fewer points than any other club, and are in the top dozen or so for total points scored. What am I missing?

No, I can't work them out either.

I think 'Dared Aroused', the Hun's demon subeditor, is on the job again.

No Idea. Without explanation, they are just numbers on a page.

I know our avg points for is 105.9 and against is 70.8

Jesse hasn't played enough first grade games. No rookie has scored a goal in the firsts this year..........

                          That Jesse stat is damning.

Seriously that last stat about 9th and 10th makes no sense at all.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

Couple of stats that do make sense and say something about the Swans this year.

                            From The Age/SMH:

Numbers from the AFL's official statistics supplier Champion Data show Sydney do not get as much value from their forward thrusts as other clubs.

They rank fourth for most forays inside 50 this year but, with 48.8 per cent, are 11th for converting those entries into scoring shots. The Hawks rate first in both categories.

The Swans also rate modestly for marks inside 50, their average of 11.2 a game putting them 10th in the competition. Fremantle are the only other side in the eight who do not rate in the top eight in this department.
But we are the only club to have eight players to have kicked 20 goals or more. We kick long into the forward 50, and score our goals far more from fast breaks, from stoppages or crumbing than from marks.

But according to AFL.com.au we've improved our efficiency in the last month (this may be in part due to the GWS and Bulldogs games):

In the past month the Swans have scored 12.7 per cent more often than its opposition once entering its forward 50. That's an area where it stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Sydney Swans are a not a big marking team, one query in September, but it uses the ball well by hand in tight. Those quick hands are hard to stop
