One thing we lack in 2012 is a top level tagger. Bird usually gets the job, but is a bit slow. Other than that Jack or mcVeigh, but they arent in the class of Kirk or Matthews as shut-downers.
Is the 2012 team as good as 2005's

Spot on.
In 2005 we had Mathews, Bevan, Kirk, Crouch, Ablett and Dempster as defensive/shut down players.
Now we have Smith for the small forwards and no one for the mids except Bird, who I don't particularly rate as a shut down player.
Hopefully we are not a Mathews short of a premiership

Well LRT shone for the 2005 GF and then went walkabout for many years.
I don't think he was that different earlier this season but something has changed since. Whether its a mental thing or being played more as a defensive forward. He certainly has had many years in defence to learn how to best play as a forward.
Good job Barry. Makes an interesting picture. I still think 2012 is a better side and unfortunately for us in a significantly better comp.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

I think its just the continuity in his game. Has been persistently injured just after he settles in the team.Well LRT shone for the 2005 GF and then went walkabout for many years.
