I think Gluteus Medius has to be the commentators.
    Especially BT.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The food is pretty good too. And they have Coopers on tap downstairs.
Is this somewhere that Melbourne RWOers can meet during the finals?

Yes. I'm up for it if the game's not in Melbourne.
You don't feel so silly shouting at the TV when everyone else is.

Sounds good. A long way from Ringwood, but if other RWOers will be there then I will make the trip. Not for this game, though - I will be shivering in the stands.

Gluteal sphinctorus - that would have to be Big Ted because if he doesn't do his job properly, the rear end falls out.

Reid is a tall and the coaches clearly like the tallish structure. No doubt they tossed up between Spangher and Walsh, and it was probably a close call. But Walsh has worked his butt off in every reserves game I've seen, and has shown steady improvement as the season has worn on. Is he ready to step up yet? Not sure, but we'll find out on Saturday afternoon. I think he's earned the chance to find out. Hopefully they'll instruct him to play up the ground a bit, presenting a target on long leads. His relative lack of pace shouldn't be as exposed in this role, and he can make the most of his endurance. His marking on a pressured lead is now pretty good. No reason why he can't play the same kind of role that ROK played before he transformed himself into a midfielder.

I doubt much thought was given to Jesse this week, They are obviously trying to transform him into a ruckman, based on the role he's been playing for the second half of the year in the reserves. And to Jesse's credit, he's been playing it with vigour and enthusiam - he's probably realised that learning how to be semi-decent ruckman is his last chance to resurrect his career. If LRT or Pyke gets injured, he might get a shot at a senior spot, but hard to see him coming into the team to play primarily in the forward line.
Well first time for everything I dont agree with you Liz - IMHO Walsh looks slow, doesnt read the play well enough, Havent seen him tear open a game or even have a game were I thought he had a decent game and thats in our reserves comp.

Jesse has been playing well in the ruck and been one of the best in the last couple of games and the role is Ruck / FWD would have thought he has shown more than Walsh in the last month.

Im happy to eat Humble pie have before but IMHO I dont think Walsh will be the mesiah everyone is thinking from what Ive seen he is very average in a very average competition = headed for VFL or SANFL.

I have seen Walsh on plenty of occasions show a fair bit of potential in the forward line. Considering the Saints had him in the back line I think he's shown admirable improvement and he's certainly learning the game. Somewhere else in this thread there are quotes from the coaching staff which from outside looking in seem pretty accurate.

i watched walsh really closely against the saints and i have to say i hope he has improved A LOT. a forward line of walsh, mummy and LRT looks very slow and highly unlikely to take marks against scarlett, lonergan and taylor.

as usual unless we get the ball in and lock it in with midfielders - which exposes us if they cant there quick enough so the ball goes back over their heads (a la second quarter re hawthorn)

i know we have travelled really well this season but i just think the game plan has been exposed against the better teams...or teams where we simply cant hold it in for any length of timne - and multiple goals are kicked against us quickly.

Hammer, you are on the money. Unfortunately Walsh has very slow pace and will need a lot of skill to be effective. In my mind spanger and white look far more dangerous than Walsh and lrt
White has had plenty of chances but is still reasonably young for a big guy and has good pace. Our forward line will hopefully get the job done but is the most suspect of all top 8 teams.
Having said all this I believe we have some real quality in other areas and are pretty confident we can go deep in the finals.

Anyone expecting - or hoping - for Walsh to be 'the messiah' is going to be disappointed. That is unrealistic expectations for a bloke playing his 3rd game of senior AFL. We just need him to come in and play a role, and hope for the same spread of goals from our midfield and a handful from our array of tall types.

We already have 3 in the team playing the ruck or ruck/forward role. We don't need anyone else this week who can take their turn in the ruck.

I am not convinced that Walsh is going to make it long term in the AFL but I do think he's earned the chance to show how much progress he's made over the past three months.

I don't think he will make it either. I also think its a far too important game to experiment with him. If he is the sub its even more pointless.
I hope i'm wrong but I reckon its a really bad selection.

I think the concern is that it is only his 3rd game - he is going to be marked by the likes if Scarlett, Hunt and Lonegan - this is a game that decides if we play our first final here or interstate - whilst it sounds like some of us are panicking its just that there were a few more experienced players that should have perhaps been considered. However Horse knows what he's doing so lets hope Tommy has a great game.

Poor Tommy has become the new Jesse after three games.

There was a time that Grundy was not much faster.

I didn't think Walsh was that bad. Laid some good tackles, wasn't afraid of contact, crashed a few packs. Could have had a second goal. He's not slow either, but maybe a little hesitant. That will come, hopefully. He's still finding his way, but he's OK.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!
