Prelim team selection

We need to kick more goals, and we need fresh legs in the midfield at three-quarter time. So Morton plays a full game and Parker has the green vest. Anything else is gambling, IMHO.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Like the game against Adelaide, we have to kick a winning score. We can't defend our way to victory.
That means the most potent forward line possible. Morton did the job against the Crows, and we need to him to do it again tomorrow night.
I just hope Grundy can do the job on Cloke if he gets it.Comment

Geez i hope he doesn't get Cloke. He was horrible last time against him. LRT or Teddy please.
I wouldn't be upset if they left Grundy out, played Parker in Bennys spot, and selected someone quick for the sub spot.Comment

I agree completely. Armstrong to sub? Not gonna happen though.Comment

Yep understood YHO
I suppose my thinking is that Jetts has been so heavily tagged by the best teams he does not get a chance to display that outside run, although that did come back against Crows. So my thinking was let their best tagger run himself ragged on someone else and bring Jetts on late to use his fresh legs & speed.
Having said all that the reason he is getting one of the oppositions better taggers is because he can be so damaging and, if he is not there what then does their best tagger do...probably hurts us somewhere else. So I shall gracefully concede my theory sucks. I suppose our sub then could be Grundy, LRT, Morton, Parker or the Eski.Comment

Definitely won't start Jetta as Sub. If he is on song. I prefer he tear them a new one early in the game, rather than later.
An option. What's AJ's goal kicking like?
I suggested Grundy forward a few days ago, and leave LRT on Cloke.
Sometimes you need to shake things around to upset the oppositions match ups.
They had a closed training session the other day. So maybe they are trying something out of the norm??Comment

The crux of it all might come down to whether, or not, our match committee think Dawes will play. If he is out LRT, Grundy, Ted & AJ may be too top heavy in D50. Last time we played Pies they took around 20 more marks than we did and Ted & Reg are our leading markers for the year, They also took nearly 30 more than Wet Toast last week. I wonder if we might go with another tall marking player.
I reckon the emergencies will say a lot about the thinking here. If there is any doubt there will be some insurance in there.Last edited by Alan; 20 September 2012, 12:54 PM.Comment
