My thoughts too. And he would have had a goal if he hadn't been pinged for something we see many times in a game. It would be hard on Benny Mac to miss out, but unless he really is fit, and not just 80%, we should leave things alone. And I would have taken Hannebery off rather than Morton, but I dare say the coaches know more about it than I do.

I think he played the opposite game of what he did in Adelaide in that, he didn't attack in goal form but his defensive work in my mind was fantastic. Whereas the Crows game he kicked a few goals but lacked defensively. So I think he played an okay game.
He did enough to stay in IF McGlynn doesn't come up IMO.
And if we're talking changes I'd honestly like to see Armstrong in even though he hasn't played a lot and Malceski out. He's a good player obviously but I think his constant mistakes could cost us the flag and armstrong's extra dash would be good at the 'G which we don't have a good record at.Comment

Agree, Sam was pitiful. Nowhere near good enough. Just hope he pulls his socks up and realises that if he could be the difference between winning and losing next week. No team can afford to carry a player in the grand final.
And yes, hannebery's disposals at times were cringworthy, but his effort was faultless.Comment

I definitely agree with Sam, was the one player who I didn't notice. Morton was great with his pressure but he did look slow when he had the ball- was still getting used to the final's intensity. I thought Shaw and Hannebery both had absolute blinders, Shaw's run from halfback was extraordinary- but yes some of his disposals were ordinary, I think he was in our best overall though.Comment

Fully agree. Sam was the only one that was well below par. I think he's the nervous type. Today he had the marking yips for some reason. Some of his defensive work was okay. Morton is not all that quick, but you have to be impressed with his defensive efforts. We know that he can usually do the other stuff even if he did hit the post on a shot you would have backed him to kick 95% of the time. He needs a good hard preseason to get his fitness up. Shaw was fantastic. Took some incredible and brave marks and ran the ball out of trouble over and over again.
If we can be calm and composed next week, we have a real shot to beat Hawthorn. Our full court pressure and midfield are first class.Comment

Are any of the people bagging Reid going to drop him? He did some very good things tonight, and if he didn't star in the way he has the potential to do, he takes a top defender, he is still a great mark (despite a dreadful dropped ball on the centre of the 50 arc, and he wasn't alone in that), and his sheer presence gives irreplaceable structure to the forward line and huge morale boost to his team mates.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team.
