Umpires were certainly on the Hawks side, but we're premiers!!!!!

Anyone else notice Luke Hodge run through the mark in the first quarter?? I was screaming at the tv, as it would have put us about 30m out having a shot.

      Geisch true to form...

Meh, not overly concerned with the umpiring ( with hindsight of course). There were a few that went our way remember - especially the free against Jetta that was not paid downfield. Had my head in my hands, slagging off Jetta for the stupidity of it, but when I looked up, the umpire had been generous.
Also the Hawks fans were livid about the non-HTB decision against LRT could have gone either way in my opinion.

Free kicks 23-10 in Hawks favour pretty much sums it up. It was actually a Bombers supporting friend who commented on FB at 3/4 time that had me really annoyed....he was too.

That is true about the LRT one, but we also laid 110 odd tackles and got was it one HTB decision for the day - there were 7 or 8 times, that had it not been a GF, would have been HTB all day long.

There were a few that went our way, but many that didn't - it was certainly not one of those days where it naturally 'balanced itself out'. But who cares, we are PREMIERS!!!

But hey, we seemed to have the footy gods with us, (pushing the Hawks shots for goals just wide, or into the post), and they will clearly trump the umpies every time!
Yep I found that one rather ironic too, as Bird gave away a free for the exact same action (and in the pocket..weird coincidence) earlier in the game!

But yes we still won, goes to show even 19 Hawks on the field can't stop the Swannies!!

I thought the Pyke one was tough but probably there.
The LRT one was not HTB given the standard set by the umpires on the day. The Jetta decision was that he was in the act of kicking so no downfield kick - I genuinely think there is a major problem with AFL umpires.

These were experienced grand final umpires who officiated two teams to obviously different standards. Because we won everyone will let it slide but the AFL has a serious problem on its hands which it needs to address. And Sydney always seems to be on the end of the bad decisions. Imagine if in the game against hawthorn - Sam Reid was given a fifty and the puopolo decision had been made correctly. Thats a two goal turnaround in a game decided by 7 points. Ie the biggest regular season game, that decided the minor premiership, was heavily influenced by major umpiring errors. I understand that signifcant figures in the game would not take it on publically because it creates animosity towards the umpiring fraternity across all levels of AFL. We can't be about encouraging umpire abuse - but it is time somebody put their hand up to get this issue on the agenda.

Goodes was very lucky he was not reported by MRP for his slide in on Rioli - Dermit B tried to make an issue of it on SEN - if it was not a Grand Final he would have been gone - given his form for sliding in and especially after what happened to Gary Rohan incident I was hoping he might have been a bit smarter and kept his feet - great player that he is he is also treading a fine line.

What point of the game was the slide? Hadnt heard another reference to it aside from Dermie, so figured it was probably a non issue.

I've seen the last quarter about five times and hadn't noticed the incident - and haven't gone back to look since Dermie raised it. So a bloke on one leg managed to slide in on the most nimble player in the competition? And the umps, the MRP and all those of us who have watched the game missed the event that you and Dermie saw. I'll have to go and have a look. I did notice Goodes the bulldozer in the last few minutes though.

An excellent point. It never excused what Barry did, but the Hawks certainly did their best to get a reaction out of the big guy that day.

The fact that he was bulldozing in the last quarter shows that he does'nt have to slide - check out the second quarter again - very lucky and hopefully never seen again !
