It's always sad to see part of 'the family' move on. It's good to see though that TDL, Spangs and Heath get fresh opportunities. Meredith & Gordon are no surprise. I was actually thinking, why is Meredith being kept on while the others were let go!!

Heath is the one I am most reluctant to see go. He is only 21 and after battling 2 knee reco's seemed to be hitting his straps. I hope he gets opportunity at Port.

I'm happy with the clean out...it was necessary.

We now have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds (all be it late ones).

Gotta hope Beatson and co can weave some more magic....

Recent history shows he's had better success with picks 20 - 60 than most.

But given we are premiers, and are coming from last spot in the draft order...not a bad result.

And we have plenty of room in the cap should an opportunity arise.

I guess it depends on the theories some clubs have about the changing face of the game and what they need at their clubs. Some clubs are so deficient that you would expect them to go for the "next best" when selecting in the draft. I love our position because we can pick and choose how we draft rather than look for temporary holes to plug.

This will be the group of young players that we will be looking to fill the holes left by the big exodus of senior players in a couple of year time. If we can land 3 decent players from 6 picks, it will be a big win. But as we all know, the draft can be a crap shoot.

The Heath one is the only one I think hurts us, but I'm sure he'll play at PAFC. I thought Gordan would make it....but am not surprised, if any will be re-rookied I suspect it will be him.

All the rest are fair enough and makes the guys who can be part of the seniors such as Cunningham, Lamb, etc step up.

That's correct but he insisted on going to the Dogs instead of us. Poor choice now.

List cloggers like Shaw, Mattner, Richards or McGlynn you mean? Looks like it's not just other teams' supporters that under-rate our depth players.

I reckon TDL & White would be in the best 22 of a number of other AFL clubs (tho not sure if they'd include Saints & Crows, but there you go...).

I think it works in the club's favour that it will never stand in the way of a player's career opportunity. It means that players are prepared to work harder because they know that one way or another they will get rewarded with an opportunity, whether it is with the Swans or not. It must make the job of the recruiters easier when the players know they are not walking into a dead end, as well as being at a club with such a great culture and excellent record in player development.

It's always sad to see players go, even those unlikely to make much of a difference to our senior team prospects. Losing Cambo makes me the saddest, though it makes sense from his point of view. The trading of Spangher surprised me the most, especially to Hawthorn, where I don't see him getting many more chances, indeed any, than at the Swans. Had he stayed with us and his body had stood up to the rigours, I think he'd have been a decent chance of playing senior footy for us next year, especially if we don't get Tippett.

The trading of TDL to the Saints bemuses me. It seems just about the worst fit for him, given their existing roster. But who knows.

Nipper had a pretty mediocre year in 2012 after looking quite promising the year before. I thought he might be still under contract and hence safe for another year but I am not surprised to see him depart. He needed not just to retain his form from the previous year but to show significant advancement. He didn't.

Meredith just seemed to lack the intensity or desperation needed to show he wanted to be a senior player. When I think back to how McVeigh and Malceski used to dominate at reserves level in 2005/6 when they were on the fringes of the senior team in a top of the table club, Meredith just didn't seem as if he wanted it that much, or understood what he needed to do to get to the next level.

I wish them all well in their future pursuits, football or otherwise. I've enjoyed watching them run around with the reserves (predominantly) and as a NEAFL team, they've performed pretty well over the last couple of seasons.

Anyone else think that ex hawks defender Gilham would have been good for us? would give us a bit more defensive coverage and is only 28, think the GWS have done well there.

I'm not sure about the other ressie watchers, but I am very much looking forward to, for us, a large influx of new blood. perhaps as many as 10 new faces.
