We haven't always been the best during trade season.

We've been generally great during trade season, it's our early draft picks which have been disappointing. Of our first round picks, LJ, Vespa, DOK, Willougby have all proven to be misses in the last 10 years, some spectacularly.

Even though he'd played back to back GF's, Dempster was considered the steak knives by most in that trade with Schneids. Little doubt about which one we'd take back now if given the opportunity...

Going to miss Nipper. Spang, TDL & Heath transfer to get games which is fair. I think the Hawks got the worst of it as Spang is injury prone. Brett Merredith lacked something and Nipp was very wasteful but I think that is a head thing not a lack of skill. I think we drafted and traded very well the last two years. Lamb, Mitchell, Brown, Everitt (a lot won't agree but I think he is turning out ok), Lockyer, Morton, AJ, Parker, Walsh, Armstrong, Reid, Cunningham & Biggs. Four of them played in a premiership and the others are all capable of playing in a premiership. Cunningham and Biggs to be elevated. By the way Campbell Heath was put back on the rookie list so there are only 5 spots up for grabs those of Moore, Nipper, Spang, TDL & Merredith. If White goes there will be 6.

Damn forgot Seabs! So six then! Seven if Jesse decides to nominate for the draft. Someone said Jesse would be silly to nominate for the draft as nobody has shown interest in him in the trade period, Liz maybe. The draft is very different as sides can draft him as a late draft pick whereas if teams decided they were interested in the trade they would have to compensate us. I think if he nominates Port would probably be interested as he has already shown interest in going to Adelaide.

Yes on face value the aforementioned trade is a fail, but ask yourself who would Dempster or Schneider replace in our 2012 GF side?

Morton made a major contribution in his first Grand Final. Kicked two goals and set up another. Schneider played in three Grand Finals.

Five years down the track our 05 premiership players - Goodes, Bolton, Lewie and RyanO have another premiership medal, Schneids and Dempster don't. Point being the SFA you say we got has all worked out in the end.
