You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to include free entry to the 2 late season ANZ blockbusters (Pies and Hawks) in the Melb membership as a sign of goodwill. Obviously the SCG games are a bit harder given the reduced capacity, but there is plenty of room for everybody at ANZ.
Mind you, if Melb members feel it's worth it, I'm sure it's not too late to get those games included for 2013...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Hobart, NZ and Adelaide all soon to be booked in for me.
Personally the only disappointment for me is that other than the GF, the Dogs are the only opportunity to travel to Melb in the 2nd half of the season. Not sure if that's a trip I can be bothered making.
If the Kardinia redevelopment is finished, I might finally be able to persuade the mates to head to Geelong.
On the talk of memberships, I really do not get why the Swans don't allow for more tailored packages between Melbourne and Sydney, or at very least a combined Membership. I have two memberships as I go both ways from canberra during the season. I have a 5 game country membership fro Sydney, and this year had a Platinum Membership for Melbourne. That allows entry for three games in sydney to the red zone, which is more than fine by me as I have 8 games potentially in total in Sydney plus the Melbourne games. However, it would be nice to have one combined membership that does everything instead.
I'm exceptionally tempted not to bother with the Melbourne membership and just upgrade my Sydney membership (maybe to a full red zone membership for all games) to keep the Premiership Club benefits, and then just buy tickets for Melbourne games. For out of the 4 games in Melbourne, the dogs and Melbourne will be small crowds easily done on general admin tickets, and I'll only need to buy a decent ticket for either the Collingwood or Hawthorn game, depending on which I go to."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Don't forget the warm fuzzy message.
You think he could have secured a deal for three or four games in Sydney to be attached to the Melbourne memberships. They could have done a cheapy rate at the Randwick Motel for those games for Vic members.
They just don't think laterally enough.
Gold and up, gets you 6 Vic games (2012) and 3 home games @ SCG or ANZ.
Scott, you're not putting your kids and family before the Swans again?.
Well, if you're not at home, leave the keys under the front mat and I'm sure there will be lots of RWO people who could stay at your place during GF week. You know, just to keep an eye on things.
You'll have to fight the rest of the family and the Dog for the keys!!Comment

That is one thing that has me so excited about 2013. I know it'll take him most of the season to get back on his feet, if not until 2014, but I can't wait to see him back on the field. I think a lot of people (especially outside of the Swans) have forgotten just how good he might turn out to be.

Mind you Geelong is not in Melbourne. Many Sydney fans seem to think it is. The other thing id opposition fans normally don't go there because the tickets are almost always sold out first day to Cats supporters. I never went there when I lived in Melbourne for precisely these reasons. I am living in Sydney but I won't be renewing my membership either. Nothing to do with the club I am going to Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand in June/July and I had to make a choice, Membership or Trip! I chose trip because I have been wanting to do this for years.Comment

Email to Melb members from Andrew Ireland
A message to Victorian members from Sydney Swans Chief Executive, Andrew Ireland.
The AFL fixture for 2013 has been announced this morning, and while the Club is quite happy with the home games allocated in Sydney, we are disappointed for our loyal and passionate members and supporters based in Victoria, to have only five games allocated in 2013.
Every year we request a minimum of six games in Victoria but we are beholden to the AFL and to a lesser degree to the Victorian based clubs.
In 2013, two Victorian based clubs that we have been drawn to play - St Kilda and North Melbourne - have chosen to play their 'home' games internationally and interstate, which has impacted the number of matches we play in Victoria.
On a positive note, we have taken the step of securing access to a significant number of extra seats for members to the round 21 match against Geelong at Simonds Stadium, and look forward to playing more matches at the MCG, including the Friday night match against Collingwood in round nine.
Everyone at the Club, particularly the players, values the wonderful support we receive when we play in Victoria. This was clearly highlighted by the amount of red and white fans at the MCG on Grand Final day.
You can rest assured that we will continue to work with the AFL to ensure we will have a minimum of six games in Victoria in the years ahead.
I sent the following email in reply and suggest all Vic members do something similar so that the club gets the message loud and clear that we will not accept any price gouging here.
"Thanks Andrew for the email. It is appreciated as I am bitterly disappointed that there will only be four games in Melbourne next year. Geelong does not count for most Vic members.
As I am sure there was financial inducement for the club to participate in Hobart and Wellington games, and the fact that you will have to compensate one less Melbourne club for the attendance of Vic members at their home game, I trust we will see a commensurate reduction in the membership fees for Victorian supporters.
For the aforementioned reasons, such a reduction would not impact on the bottom line for the club.
Regards."Comment

Not happy at all as they are gradually taking all the games away from us. Geelong doesn't count as a Melbourne venue - it is a hole and overpriced. Surely with all the Melbourne clubs still in the comp we could wangle more games down here. Not travelling interstate either as husband is now retired and money doesn't grow on trees anymore.Last edited by swannymum; 31 October 2012, 04:19 PM.Last weekend in Sept 05 - The best weekend of my life!Comment

At the risk of causing a civil war, we have members on here who travel from Outer Western Sydney, the Central Coast, Canberra (and many other places!)- all of which can be a longer trek than Melbourne to Geelong... If they bitch about the travel they're regularly told to suck it up and not NARF but when Melbourne fans say Geelong doesn't count because it's so far away there's usually consensus that it's a fair trek.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
