    TLM Countdown 2012, Rnds 11 - 13

Round 11: Sydney Swans (86) def Essendon (82), ES

The Swans were scintillating for the first three quarters, limiting Essendon to just two goals and 15 behinds. The swans couldn't possibly lose this game. 47 points in front at the last change. Right?
The Bombers had other ideas and threw everything at the swans who seemed a bit shell shocked. Watson was thrown forward with devastating results as he'd done in previous games. 3 goals to the bombers in the 1st 7 minutes. Then a steadier from Jude. But then it was a bomber blitz. 5 goals in 12 minutes got the bombers to 4 points. Surely not. The a rare fumble by Fletcher under enormous pressure from Jack, who toe pokes the ball clear to run into an open goal. But the ball doesn't sit for him and the defence closes as he gets the ball to Jetta who snaps to give the swans a 10 point lead with roughly 5 minutes to go. With not much left on the clock Watson then goals to give them a chance. One last roll of the dice. In a devastating moment for all, Dempsey marks just on 50m in front of Jetta, with seconds left on the clock. He plays on, and before he can do anything more the siren sounds. Swans survive.

3 goals to Jetta. The veterans stood up with Bolton (28) and O'Keefe (27) leading the disposals. Bolton also laid a massive 9 tackles as well as kicking a crucial goal in the last.

    Swans by 4.

Round 13: Sydney Swans (80) def Geelong Cats (74), SCG

Another perfect start to a game. This time against the reigning premiers. 7 goals straight to 1 goal 1. And Goodes first game back from an injury layoff.
He was clearly not fully fit and out of touch.
Before the wheels fell off in the 2nd Term. And the third. And the fourth.
After leading by as much as 6 goals in the third term, the cats piled on 6 unanswered goals, before Jack put the swans back in front.
But it wasn't for long as Hawkins marked and kicked truly to snare back the lead.
Goodes' subsitute Everitt became the hero by making one of his 3 kicks of the night count.
With only a minute and a half left, Everitt goaled from just inside 50, and almost on the boundary. Both Kennedy and McGlynn had a chance to seal the game, but missed.
But the most importnat touch of the night was when Grundy got a hand in to dispossess Chapman who would have been away otherwise.
    Swans saved again.

2 goals each to Jack, McGlynn and Reid. O'Keefe (26) and Shaw (25) led the disposals, while Jack (9) and Jude (7) tackled everything.

Half way through the season and McVeigh has one sad & solitary vote in the TLM. I thought he was only underrated by opposition fans?

Anyway, thanks for doing this Scott, great way to re-live the season when there is no other footy news going on.

McVeigh picked up after his daughter was born.
      Watch for a late run.

      Thanks

          Interesting to watch this develop.

The top two are All Australian candidates.

The whole spread based on three votes at a time is a fair indication of why there were no passengers in the GF.
