    TLM Countdown 2012, Rnds 16 - 17

Round 16: Sydney Swans (121) def West Coast Eagles (69), PS

Top of the table clash. The loser could drop dramatically down the ladder due to the other round results.
Like last week, the opposition jumped out of the blocks before the swans got going and 3 goals to the Eagles, before 4 goals to the swans ending with the swans in front by 4 at qtr time. The 2nd qtr was the opposite with the Swans kicking the first 3 goals, before the eagles kicked the next 3 to get to within 1 point. Took some brilliiance by inexperienced Pyke, to force his more experienced opponent, Glass, under the ball, turn and run onto the loose ball and kick a great goal. Followed by Bolton running into space to receive the ball from Bird for another. The next 2 qtrs were all swans with the tall forwards of the eagles failing to dominate. 8 swans goals to 3 to close the match out in the second half. A game that the swans really played well all over the ground. Hard at the ball, Tackling hard, supporting each other. A Great win in the West.

12 goal scorers, with Jetta (4), Bolton (3) and Reid (3) kicking the most. Hannerbery (42) and O'Keefe dominated with the ball. 11 Tackles to Jack.
Only 2 players withe less than 10 touches, LRT (Subbed off after a concusion) and Everitt who was the Sub.

    Brownlow : 3. R O'Keefe (Syd), 2. D Hannebery (Syd), 1. K Jack (Syd)
CC: Ryan O?Keefe 48, Kieren Jack 43, Josh Kennedy 42

Round 17: Sydney Swans (105) def St Kilda (76), SCG

After a blistering start by St Kilda, where Milne kicked 3 of their first 4 goals, the swans hit back through some fast work under pressure for McVeigh to snap for the first and only goal for the swans in the first qtr. The coaches words must have stung as it was a different team after the break. 3 goals in the first 10 minutes and the scores were level. One more for the quarter and none for the saints agve the swans a 9 point lead. Losing Mumford to a knee injury at half tinme put some pressure on Pyke, who stood up admirably. Another 4 goals saw the swans in front by 16. The Saints weren't done with and missed a number of chances to take back the lead. Then they two teams went goal for goal, before the swans landed the lst 4 goals of the game to comfortably in what was otherwise a close game.

2 goals a piece to Bolton, Jack and Goodes. Kennedy had the ball on a string with 35. Pyke had 34 Hit outs.

    Swans by 29.

    Brownlow : 3. J Kennedy (Syd), 2. J McVeigh (Syd), 1. S Milne (StK)

    Leaderboard after 17 rounds
    39 Josh Kennedy
    30 Kieren Jack
    29 Ted Richards
    24 Lewis Jetta
    22 Dan Hannebery
    15 Jude Bolton
    13 Jarrad McVeigh
    11 Ryan O'Keefe
    9 Luke Parker
    9 Rhyce Shaw
    9 Alex Johnson
    8 Adam Goodes
    7 Ben McGlynn
    6 Sam Reid
    4 Lewis Roberts-Thomson
    4 Craig Bird
    3 Nick Malceski
    1 Tony Armstrong
    1 Martin Mattner
    1 Heath Grundy
    1 Shane Mumford
    1 Mike Pyke

And Pyke gets his first votes against the eagles. Well done considering the opposition of Cox and Nic Nat.
Not much movement at the top of the ladder as the 3 leaders all gained 5 votes in these rounds.
ROK was the biggest mover getting into double figures.

Gotta say - I think the TLM is a pretty good indication of the best during games. More often than not we've been off with the Brownlow votes and bang on with the CC votes. Good sign in both cases.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

I'm really enjoying the countdown and I agree that it does mirror what we've seen during the season pretty well. We're quite an astute mob here at RWO!
