What brings me undone is that he is described as mature aged. He is 22 years old. Shoot, I am about to fall apart.

But welcome Dean! Speed and agility in traffic. Can see where this is going.

Love the sound of this young man. Determination in spades. Doesn't give up easily. Yep

I was listening to the SEN radio coverage for a while after the draft finished, and they were focussing for a while on the VFL players drafted, interviewing the Frankston and North Ballarat coaches. Towers was a strong focus of the discussion, and obviously the main focus during the interview with Fitzgerald (Roosters coach). He described Towers as academically very bright, and with plenty of scope for development in the AFL system. He described him as primarily an outside player at the moment, but definitely with the potential to learn how to win more of his own ball.

The highlights video portrays him as a very strong-bodied young man who isn't afraid to use his size and speed to bust through packs. I am very interested to see how he translates to AFL level.

I know most of the draft profiles are little more than puff pieces concentrating on the positive aspects of the potential draftee but I can't but be impressed after reading Towers' profile. His attitude towards his game and penchant to review his games and pester his coaches for feedback would have no doubt ticked a lot of the boxes with the Swans recruiters.

In a way he is a little like Daicos, low centre of gravity. that allows him to shrug off tackles and balance easily. Is a very long kick at goal and clever at getting the ball moving. He hates a goal I noticed! LOL!

                  Surprised by this pick.

                  90% sure they'd have taken a KP.

i think he is a fella that they felt will get game time in 2013 given Rohans injury recovery

secondly i think he will move from the wing / HFF in 2013/14 to the HBF for Shaw in the future

he reminds me alot of a young Reece Shaw.........raw, blistering and only eyes forward

here are some comments i found from Kinnear

?Dean?s a typical, late-maturer, but he won the best young talent award in the VFL,? Beatson told sydneyswans.com.au.

?He?s a 190cm wingman/halfback who has good speed and good power - we?re pleased with him; he was a priority for us.

?We just felt Dean?s got the talent to be of real use to us, so it?s not like we just picked up a 22-year-old because he?s 22, we feel with his speed and power and ability overhead, he really suits us.?

Would he still have been available at 44-46?

                        Probably.

The phantom drafts had him going in the late teens to twenties so no I doubt he would have made it to 44

                            Probably not.

I am disappointed we didn't take a KP with this pick. I sure he will be a valuable addition to the club, but we were at the front of the queue for a draft supposedly deep with KP's. If you look at the picks after us:

Swans: Mature Age midfielder/defender - then,
