Where to for Tommy Walsh ?

So we have some serious depth at the moment with Talls except with Seaby gone Tippett is important for possible Ruck/FF rotation if injuries struck !

we saw mummy struggle with injuries in 2012 and so too Adam Goodes !

What i am trying to work out is Walsh going to be a forward or back or a non senior level player ? Walsh and White are there there there abouts but they are on the edge of where Teddy was a few seasons ago.....it is either advance or perish.

I never ever would have thought Teddy could become a strong and confident as the key defender........even Reg has surprised me.

Why not Walsh and or White ?

Goodes - our goal square and leading tall for 2013.......2014?

Reid - our CHF for many years to come

LRT - rotating forward and defender

Walsh - ? My gut feeling is that he has all the potential for a backlin role like Teddy.......i think upfront he has got potential but he could truly kill it in the backline

    White - its time !!!

Andrejs - a good lead and target, great kick, but a small engine and may end up in the backline ?

Pyke - rotating Ruckman and forward
    Mummy - our starting Ruckman

Starling - exciting opportunity as a Defender or Forward

    Tippett - perfect blend

Stretching a bit to include Starling, he might not ever play for our club.

Walsh and Everitt are in the same boat, they need to show something in 2013 or there's a fair chance they won't be on our list past 2014. White, due to his form in the ruck this year, has more credits.

They'll all need to be careful they're not leapfrogged by Membrey, who is ready made to get senior games next year.

Many of us have been saying that for several years, and yet hope springs eternal.

      As for Walsh
I have no idea what will become of him, we clearly purchased him to fill a hole up forward and towards the end of the year he improved markedly. Tippets arrival will mean he needs to be retrained for defence, and given he turns 25 before next season, his window of opportunity is narrowing rapidly.

White, Walsh and Drey will all have to show something special early in the season as there are few spots to be had and they are at that age when they will have few chances remaining. It will be difficult to break into the back line, especially with LRT as first choice backup, and the likes of Lockyer and Brown will be showing what they could do as well.

There is a possible spot for another tall forward, even if Tippett comes into the side, at least for now. But again, there is a lot of competition for that spot, including Membrey, as mentioned. With Tippett and Reid, the 3rd 'tall' doesn't really have to be tall. Could be Rowan, Membrey or even Morton.

I had been thinking that Goodes might be a super-sub beyond 2013, which could extend his career for quite some time. Now I am thinking he should take over for Vlad as new AFL chief. They really need to break up that old boys club down there. They need a big injection of integrity for the good of the game.

With Tippet and Membrey coming in, I think Walsh, Everitt and White will just add to our depth when injuries occur, you may or may not of forgotten, we do rest Pyke, Mumford, Bolton (even though his not tall) up forward, we have lots of very good midfielders who we can't afford not to play. Remember Rohan will come back next season most likely in the forward line to start off, Tom Mitchell will start playing, Luke Parker will stop being sub and play midfield/forward. We don't have a lot of room for White (even though I'd like to see him play), Everitt and Walsh. Armstrong will be pushing for more games and also Benny Mcglyn will be back, I even think Pyke may struggle to stay in the side (unless Mumford gets injured) as we will have Tippet and LRT who can play second ruckman. This is a good thing as we will now have a lot of depth but players might seek opportunities elsewhere if they don't get a game beyond this year.

Can't see Walsh getting a game and will probably be gone at the end of his contract.

Think Walsh would make a decent defender, if you watch his second game all he was doing was spoiling.

Perhaps he and Chris McKaigue, Kyle Coney, Brendan Murphy and Declan O'Mahony can all get together and discuss why the Swans keep bothering with Irish recruits.

If we land Tippett, then probably the backline. I actually think he could flourish there. There's no doubt he has potential, but he's still learning the game, and probably a little slower than hoped. That doesn't mean he won't get there in the end.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Yep, that's the most hopeful scenario, especially given that our key defenders are mid-late career.

We are slightly thin on ruck stocks, so maybe that's an opportunity. With Seaby's departure, Jesse is our next pick as ruck (+forward). It helps that he's 2cm taller and a hefty 10kg heavier than TW.

Stating the obvious, a lot depends on us picking up Tippett. The situation is:
                        Rucks: Mummo, Pyke
                        Key Forwards: Reid, Goodes
                        Ruck/Forward: White, Walsh (Tippett?)
Ruck, Forward, Defender, Utility, GF Legend: LRT
Key Defenders: Ted, Reg, AJ (Walsh??)
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

that it seems very rare that Irish recruits make an impact. I was sort of agreeing with you.

I still hold out a bit of hope that Tommy will progress and make a decent fist of an AFL career - he really does seem to have a good dose of mongrel and aggression, and I think he still has a bit more learning to do. He's a decent-sized lad too - yeah the back line may be his place perhaps....
