They are calling the premiership cup the Brian Lake Cup 2013. Hope he does a hammy 5 minutes into round 1.

A better outcome is he does a hammy with 50sec to go in the Grand Final which results in Sammy gettiing away and kicking the winning goal breaking the hearts of Hawks fans yet again.

Why was there not the scrutiny and questions surrounding Lakes move to The Hawks that there was surrounding Tippett?
I would assume Lake would be on some pretty serious coin, Hawthorn didn't lose many players, and would have to have a few players in the upper echelon as far as pay goes, yet not a whimper from the media.

It's an interesting question. From what we've heard in the media I get the impression that Lake had blotted his copybook at the Bulldogs in some way and perhaps would be happy to go to a new environment, especially one with the premiership window wide open. This won't be the case at WB for some time yet. He may even have been prepared to accept less than he might ask in other circumstances. Maybe time will tell.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Yeah, I read the article thinking, 'Nice stats. I'll just be over here admiring our nice flag.'

I agree, 96% of facts are used in this manner.

I seem to remember reading Lake took a significant paycut to fit into the Hawks cap. Sacrificed income in the hope of winning a flag before he retires. Pity for him we'll have Tippett and Reid in his way next year!

Lake is on big money at Hawthorn.

I guess the Buddy show is the big attraction to the media. I struggle with how Hawthorn could be favorites. I cannot remember a side with such a poor midfield winning premierships. I thought that most of 2012.

Mitchell is a superstar. Lot's of respect for Sewell, but he is just a real goer. GF emphasizes that, her really struggled to do damage despite winning a lot of ball

Jordan Lewis is not an A grader, Burgoyne was a superstar, but doesn't have the consistency. Add to that they are slow.

I cannot see them matching the midfields of Sydney Collingwood and west coast

Can you lay bets to short a side to not make top 4?

Sorry for injecting seriousness into the thread

I think you're underrating Sewell and Burgoyne, but apart from that I agree that the Hawks are overrated as a result of being from Melbourne where they are one of the strongest Victorian teams, they had a great 2012, I suppose I am more interested to see how they respond to the pain of losing a close grand final, as West Coast were spurred on by it in 2006.

Someone at Champion Data has been smoking the wacky tabacky.
Our defense let through less than any other side last season. I don't see how they could be rated third on performance if they were the least scored against. I think Champion Data probably use a Stats model that is flawed, in other words it takes into account data other than lack of scoring against. Don't really like these stats based predictions or assessments. If you go on stats we should have lost the final against Adelaide and the GF.

The Bookmakers have Cats as favourites for the flag according to an article I read on AFL.com. Sounds like the same @@@@e year in year out and it doesn't even matter if we win a flag and then strengthen our forward line. I reckon the Cats Chairman has put a lot of early money down.

It didn't say they were flag favourites it said they were taking the most money for them. Hawks are still favourites with Swans and WC next.

To be honest, I think they'll struggle to win the big one this year given they only had a six day rest after the PF in 2012.

Its OK Guys - the Swans are still ranked first in how much money you get to spend on players every year......
