i am happy with where the Swans are at right now - they are trending upwards and if it was an in an under game they were ready for it

I ruckman and midfield struggled to get on top in the first half but that sure changed

I saw enough fire in the belly across the park and DONT WORRY Horse will be onto them big time with the video this week !!
I thought Goodsey was gone after his first two rounds, but haha , he has still got it. Much better game by Jets today, though a long way from his best. Parker continues to improve. Only bad point.
I was disappointed in Armstrong's game today. His tackling is shocking, and decision making only marginally better. North got a few easy gaols due to his play. But overall very happy to have the best midfield in the comp!!

Must have been that game against the Dons where he got 26 contested possessions in the wet.

Still 21 fewer than Torture Chambers. Shows Jude is not the complete footballer

That was a comprehensive win. Although behind in the first half we were always only a couple of kicks behind. The third quarter belonged to our midfield who just swarmed around the footy and forced turnover after turnover. By the way, Malceski was very good and Smith towelled up Thomas.

OK, so Jude's had 101 hitout throughout his career.

Back to the game.....is it just me or does Jetta seem reluctant to sprint?

Haven't seen him attempt to run flat out once so far this year.

Jetta just ambled all day, and seemed not to chase the ball or player with the ball at all.

It is a strange ground; claimed to be 15,000 but with no grandstands to speak of, any sound or enthusiasm from the crowd just vanished into the ether.

McVeigh on the field made more noise

After 3 rounds and 3 wins, I still cannot say how we are going.

                      The positive are:
It seems the midfield always finds a way to step up.
Parker is already a very good midfielder in only his 3rd year.
Malceski stepped up in Shaw's absence. Was very good today and has been this year. Seems to be back to his best footy.

                      On the negative side:
Jetta refuses to get out of second gear. For someone so fast, why is he only jogging?
Armstrong can't tackle. He can kick, but it's not enough. If Shaw is out next week, give Rampe or Lamb a shot.
We really do need Tippett. Reid may end up a defender after all.

Virtually every attack goes through Reid. The mid fielders are kicking goals because he brings it to the ground. An absolute INTEGRAL part of our forward structure. It's up to the team to kick goals not any individual!

Okay maybe not the worst game EVER by a swan...but dreadful from start to finish....skill errors and heart errors and decision errors not just failing to set things up as he was picked to do....but also very, very little resembling defence and an appalling number of those errors leading to goals. Doesn't he have a reputation as a good kick? He's a terrible kick....worse than Shaw and Mattner. Plus he is unbelievably soft repeatedly knocked out of contests with no apparent effort....and fumbly. Then again players can improve, he must have something going for him or he wouldn't get picked, I suppose.

                          Here's hoping.

And, BTW negativism is entirely appropriate after that performance. For 3/4 of the entire game we had almost no accountability and were sliced open up the centre like a tin opener. At one point the marks were something like 70 to 25. That's the thing that should be focused on (and it is the thing that Horse has already said the coaches will be focusing on.

On the plus side...maybe it really is as simple as the fact that the players can't put in the requisite effort unless they have to....and as soon as the game is won the effort goes back down again - like Mark Webber dialing down his engine....er, yeah....maybe not such a good idea.

It's happened 3 weeks in a row in an almost identical pattern.

It won't happen 4 weeks in a row (well not if we want to win on Friday)

                            1. We were poor for muchy of the first half but we managed to go in only 14 down.
                            2. We fixed it.
                            3. 4th quarter was decent considering we were running into a gale.

Bolton kept us in it when we needed him to and the others stepped up eventually. Great sign to see Goodes start to remember that he's a decent footy player. Some of Pyke's tap work in the ruck was very good. Richards, Smith, Grundy, LRT all solid and Malceski was excellent. Parker in line for "worst kick of the year" for his left-footer in the 3rd quarter that went sideways!

Also - I LOVED hearing Basil Zempelas (spelling) continually referring to us as the reigning premiers. Wonderful. I don't care how many times he said it I enjoyed it every time.

What today proved is that Dan H is among the top few young midfielders in the competition and is as important to us as Beams is to the Pies. It was certainly Dan that got us going in 3Q.

Too harsh on Armstrong, many mistakes but some good too - that's what you get with young fellas.

Sadly agree with the Jetta consensus. There were a few moments where Herbie could have broken away or chased down a foe. Carrying an injury of some kind perhaps, it's the only explanation that springs to mind.

Overall, the Swans played a good enough game on an unfamiliar ground. Bolton kept us in touch early as McGlynn settled. McVeigh was trusty as ever and most of the blond brigade were reasonably sound. Goodes improved markedly from last week whilst Reid looks frustrated in Waiting for Tippo.

Armstrong showed his inexperience at times (one small step...) but the kid's gotta learn. Against Geelong though?

                                Things to do:
How to apply pressure without pushing in the back.
O'Keefe to teach Kennedy the Claytons handball when tackled.
Play four Round 3 3rd quarters in every round to follow.
