Sounds like a story planted by Mumford's manager. The reporter doesn't even get GWS's version on the record, even though he speaks to them. OK, even if for whatever reason GWS doesn't want to say it's chasing Mumford, the reporter should at least ask if they can afford both players. Or, they're actually chasing another player but, guided by Mumford's manager, the reporter writes that his source tells him it's Mumford. A pretty dubious story, including this prize piece of BS:

Mumford, who is presently sidelined by a fractured cheekbone, is not in a particularly great bargaining position with the Swans over an improved deal because of injury problems over the past 18 months. He missed multiple matches last year due to a back issue.

Apart from back, he's had a hammy and got whacked by Petrenko. Hardly injury-prone.

Buddy is being offered $2m a year and the smart money seems to be on him going.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Ummm what if we get no trade b/c GW$ take Mummy in the PSD ... AND Jesse wants out b/c limited opportunities (or better opponents elsewhere, or a better offer)?

Stiff, that's footy, but I trust our football dept. to make the best call on what to do and who to go after.

Not so. There are a dozen other clubs who will be interested Mummy who can put out offers during trade week & many of the other clubs will have picks above us in the PSD. Mummy might just refuse to re-sign if he wants to go.

If Mummy leaves, I hope Pyke grows a mullet.

Would hate to see Mummy go.

His injuries of late (probably since the finals last year) and the emergence of Pyke has made people forget how valuable Mummy is.

I would have him in our top 5 most important players.

GWS say they are willing to trade pick #1. There is a kid there who is a gun.

I hope GWS can beat the Dees next time and finish ahead of them. I suppose Franklin can go into the PSD if he wants to go to the bottom club, but isn't he a restricted free agent? If so, I think he can just sign and the Hawks can get compo picks. GWS have the possibilty of getting both Buddy and Mummy for zilch. Something's not right with the system.

I hope that thoughts of trading Mumford was emphatically scotched by that effort on the weekend. If anyone doubts his value as both a ruck man and mid fielder then consider how we lost the clearances at alberton.

Then consider how different it was the last time we played up until he left the ground. Mummy not only clears space for the smaller bodies his ability to follow up and create pressure by his mere physicality is a great asset.

Pyke is an emerging talent but mummy is the talent. I only hope that we can convince him to stay because without him we struggle.

We actually won the hitouts. The rucks weren't the problem!

True, but Mumford gives us much more value around the grounds than Pyke does.
