I picked my copy up at the post office yesterday. I'll probably wait until my birthday at the end of the month to unwrap and read it, but looking forward to the read for sure...
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09
I've been contacted by the publisher who wants to do some publicity for the book on our site.
They're thinking of a live twitter chat or a Google+ hangout or the like with the author.

Nah. Who cares about the author.

Live twitter chat sounds awesome. Hashtags #rwo #riseoftheswans
I don't know anyone who uses Google+ hangout unfortunately.

Very interesting offer. If Blake was able to promote the session in The Age it could be great free publicity for RWO.
Free in the sense of not costing money, but 'only' the time of RWO devs to set it up.
To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!
Sounds an interesting read but a little premature. I'll wait for the 4th edition after the Swans have won the 2013, 2014, and 2015 flags. Then we'll really have some insights.

Unless its about controversies and this book is a warm and fuzzy essay about something we all love to feel a part of.

Hopefully he would have spoken to some fans before publishing the book for an insight to what the Bloods culture has meant to us?
Nevertheless, I think a Twitter chat would be great. I am not that keen on Google+ hangout, personally and I know there is considerable Swans conversation on Twitter.
As a media and marketing professional, I can assure you that this community (RWO) is probably one of their best defined target audiences for flogging the book. They would love to be able to sell us all a copy. You have some bargaining power and offer the publisher a significant "by-word-of-mouth" sales force.
So, while I don't suggest being totally mercenary about it (as footy fans we need to support good journos like Martin Blake writing books like this and we need publishing companies that are prepared to produce them), I would try and extract some recompense in exchange for providing access to the community you have built. This could be in the form of a small financial contribution to your costs and/or cross promotion to increase awareness of RWO to the broader Swans fan-base.
Publishing real books on paper these days is an increasingly hazardous exercise - bookshops are dropping off their twigs - so I don't think the publishers will come at a cash deal with us, but they might be quite happy to put in a good word for RWO in some way.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Well said. I'd be up for the Twitter chat. I follow Martin Blake and he's good on Twitter - willing to reply to tweets from mugs like me and not a dope.
