I've been thinking the same thing. What is going on in our medical department?!?!

Think of Morabito and Menzel. We aren't the only ones cursed. It actually happens fairly often. It's not good doing your ACL at such a young age.

Oh well. It is tragic, but at least Alex has a premiership medallion to keep him warm at night. It is possible Morabito and Menzel will never get to show their true potential.

Keep your chin up AJ, we Swans fans have long memories and we won't forget any time soon just how good you were in 2012, and just how good you'll be when you get back on the park
          Absolutely!

Feel very sorry for the kid. He is such a wonderful player and seems such a nice kid. The problem is did the surgeon stuff up? Or was it just a quirk of his metabolism that the graft didn't take? Or did the graft unravel during his rehab? All interesting questions but they don't change things for AJ. I hope he gets back ASAP but I do want him to take the best medical advice in doing so.

Got a picture of AJ with my sons at Melbourne airport the morning after the Grand Final. He was very proud and a lovely young man! Can't wait until he comes back - although, unfortunately, it seems it will be a long wait.

Unfortunately the ACL reco is still very much a medical work in progress with many techniques in use and not enough follow up.research. There is also a very high incidence of joint degeneration in the years following successful reconstructions. It is very unlikely the Swans will disclose to the public what went wrong, even if they do know. They may not even get the correct analysis from the medicos.

I never liked the traditional reco (I had one myself). I think 'harvesting' a tendon from one's hamstring or patella tendon is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. You are just creating another injured body part where one didn't exist previously. For whatever the shortcomings might be with LARS, it is far less invasive, which has got to be a big positive.

I just hope the long-term outlook remains positive for AJ. I would hate to see anything more go wrong with such a promising young player.

Felt awful for him when I read the news yesterday, it's rotten luck but I hope he is staying positive. Remember how many setbacks Melcho endured - Alex still has time on his side

Me neither - they've been doing these grafts for a long time, and don't ever recall hearing of one going wrong in this way.

Poor fella, hope he keeps his chin up, he's a little ripper.

If you see his celebration after the grand final, he looked like he bent so far back he could have done his knee in celebration. Interested to note if we scan knees enough prior to full ruptures, as a strain can lead to a tear, etc.
                      Staying ahead of the game...

We can do fully body PET scans on all the players every week, if the budget permits. But the players will be so horrified to see the kind of damage they are doing to their bodies, they'd all probably quit playing.

I love Aussie Rules, but you'be gotta be nuts to play this game. Andrew Swallow tore his Achilles today, so will probably be out for a year. Josh Jenkins looks like he may have broken his leg, or has a really serious ankle injury. Lewis Johnston likely to finally get a go.

We've got a lot of injuries. Sure. But there are just a lot of injuries in the game.

My wife went to the Ladies Lunch on Saturday and he spoke. He said he'd be getting LARS.

Hope it's true. Then he should be back for the start of next season.

                                No joke there.

John Bonham is no longer around, so he's chosen to get Metallicas drummer inserted into his knee. Will make his running more rhythmic, and also ensure that no-one on the team uses any peer to peer file sharing.
