I'll be happy to concede defeat when he makes a similar contribution against Geelong and Hawthorn. Sunday was one of his better games and I can understand the universal Jesse love. He showed quite a bit of what we all want from him.

Oh and Wolfie i'll say it again, I never said I hated him, someone else did!

If a player is out for more that 3 weeks his match fitness begins to really suffer and he NEEDS to come back through the Twos. I don't care who he is and most of our injuries are 6 weeks or more.
Well we shall find out who's untouchable soon. LRT, Goodes and Reid are all back running this week, Shaw and Rohan are available for selection so here we go folks!

....running on a treadmill. Still a few weeks away. It sounds romantic to have all those guys back in the team, but we shouldn't forget our own ethos that a champion team is better than a team of champions, and I'm thinking our champion team may look a little different this year.

But seriously, imagine if we have minimal injuries next year? We're talking Brisbane/Geelong stuff.

Would be great if they're available to play, even if not fully fit or able to break into the team. We're sailing very close to the wind on key position players ATM. Some form of experienced backup would be good.

I am going to make a prediction. One day we are going to look up and say 'Everett has played HOW many games in a row? Under the radar specialist.

This happened with Craig Bird when his 100 games seemed to sneek up on us didn't it?

Everitt's turned a corner hasn't he? Height, speed, footskills, can play back and forward- we don't want to let him go.

Not trying to bucket anyone here but in this debate there is a factor missing from every argument so far. Tippett's role is fundamental to any argument about Reid and White. Reid has played a total of 5 mins with Tippett as the leading forward and White has the last 5 matches. The fact that Tippett now gets the #1 defender, Mumford/Pyke the next tall and White the 3rd is not insignificant. Evidence White was matched with Pittard on Sunday and clearly have both a physical and mental advantage.

Reid has played as the key forward and has been consistently matched against the #1 defender. It would have been interesting to see how these stats would fare if he had been against the 3rd tall.

Good point but Pyke is taking fewer forward 50 marks since Tippet came in.

It's a fair point, particularly in defence of Reid. As I said, I'm not too big on stats anyway. Dane Swan gets massive stats, but I don't think he'd get a run in the Sydney midfield. The biggest thing I take from Jesse's stats is that he's significantly increased his work rate this year.

Having said all that, all the Swans have ever asked of their players is that they play their roles. They don't want or ask them to be superstars. If Jesse's role is to monster the third tall defender, drag defenders up the ground by using his size and speed on the wing and provide a leading target coming in the forward 50, then he's performing his role with aplomb. Whether he'd be as effective without Tippett is academic because he's not being asked to play the role without Tippett.

FWIW, I think Reid will be back in the team when he's fit. Just don't think it'll be in Jesse's role. Reid's advantages are his leap and agility, which can be used elsewhere while Jesse is nailing CHF.

Graemed makes a excellent point. Who knows how Reid could be going now if he was fit. That being said Jesse is killing it, and I hope it has finally clicked for him.

Not only has he had the #1 defender, he's usually had to contend with a 2nd and sometimes 3rd defender as well in marking contests.
I think that is why he has played so much better went sent further up the ground.

With Tippett now coping most of that attention, Reid should have a better chance at playing forward.

Certainly we would think that Reid would be advantaged with Tippett at FF, but with his injury and White playing well, we may not get a chance to see it this year.

Also, if we wanted both White and Reid in the side, it would seem that Reid would be off playing defence and White at forward. The one area that Reid has over White is his tackling and general defensive skills.

Unfortunately, I don't think we will see Reid back this year.
After his last breakdown I reckon they won't risk him too early again.
