    Hawthorn and Fremantle were on the end of Richmond's best game for the season. Geelong were on the end of North Melbourne and Adelaide's best games for the season. Comes with the territory.

Even Goodes I am concerned about getting back into a state of fitness where he can truly impact, but at least he has 17 pre-seasons and more than 300 games of experience, meaning he will know how to impact even when far from match fit.
      Goodes on TV last night said he has stepped up his training. I would think he will be back for the last 2 games. His first game back is usually poor for touch but by finals he will be ready to go. Sounded confident.

          My daughter and i had this very conversation last night. Don't think we can face another frustrating defeat by those bastards but just can't fathom missing a home game.

              I agree re Richmond, but not Geelong. Cats were pretty poor those matches. Doesn't happen every single time with us, but most of the time teams front up with their game face on against us.

              Regarding everything else, if we finish top 4 with at least 2-3 more senior players back, we're a huge chance.

                I see this loss as a good thing because it proves that the "bomb it long to tippet" game plan won't stand up in finals.

                And l love anz. Dont blame the ground for the loss.

                Good to get dome game time into shaw too. We looked much better in the last quarter when he played down back.

                  I don't blame ANZ for the loss but it is a soulless awful stadium, the lights interfere when looking at the goals, the ground is awful and it is just an awful place to watch AFL.

                    The tone of my week is influenced by whether the Swans win or not as much as anyone. But honestly, the way people jump off the team and panic at a loss really concerns me their sanity. If Swans fans are representative of what goes through the heads of Hawk and Geelong fans, after the past 2 weeks there is a bunch of supporters who think that no team has a chance of winning the Swans-Cats game or the Swans-Hawks games whoever they support.

                    We are still looking really really good for top 4. Chances are that Freo will overtake us though. If you want hope, here are some of my mantras:
                    * the first 10 minutes of last night is what the rest of our season is going to be like;
                    * we are in the midst of a heavy training load which will place us in good stead for the final 6 weeks of the season;
                    * we have some awesome players to come back fresh from injury;
                    * how good were we at the end of last year;
                    * Hawks play Pies next week;
                    * Cats play the resurgent Eagles at Subiaco next week;
                    * my tips can't be worse next week; and
                    * we will go into the last 6 weeks having played Saints at the SCG.

                    And GWS coming back big time against Freo - smashing the expected Freo percentage boost !

                    And I tipped Adelaide over Norths !

                      Off topic, I know, but the issue of taking Essendon's points away is a moot point. You'd think that one of the teams vying to finish 9th might be pulling out the digit to actually finish in that spot, just in case. But none of them is remotely good enough. And the way the Bombers are going, they'll sink into 8th spot and provide chicken fodder for the team that finishes 5th. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad to just slip out of the top 4 and get a bye in the first week of the finals.

                        As a few posters have said, everything came together for the Pies last night. It was a night that highlighted why no team can be complacent.

                        Realistically the only way we should miss is if the Pies win all 3 games and we lose to both Geelong and the Hawks. If we want to and think we can win the premiership, we should expect to finish top 4 and be aiming to beat Geelong/Hawks in both the regular season and finals.

                        Let's face it, despite last night, it's going to be harder to win the flag in 2014 than in 2013.

                          The SCG is a sensational ground. ANZ isnt as good, but still good. Its also a hell of lot easier to get to and get out of if you live west of glebe.

                          Id love to see ANZ packed to the rafters for an AFL game, but I cant see that happening if we can only get 45,000 against the pies in a premiership year.

He and Rohan should be in next week.

                              McGlynn played like someone afraid of pulling a hammy and missing finals footy (for the 2nd year in a row). 4 disposals in 3qtrs. Wow. All I can say is expect him to fire over the coming weeks now that one is out ofthe way. He owes the team big time coming into September.

                                Does anyone know this for a fact? If so it has proved counterproductive if our mids are too tired to run forward. On TV it looked like we had no-one to kick to a few times when we had the run of play. A loss in a key game cold make the finals campaign much harder anyway.
