There was 42,000 spectators at the game, 7,000 more than what the SCG can hold right now. At $40 a seat, that's an extra $280,000 for the club.

    Nothing to sneeze at.

42,000 will fit comfortably into the SCG from next year.... And I'd hazard a guess that the atmosphere will be better too...

According to the ANZ STadium website, the contract is until 2016.

I am no particular fan of AFL at the Olympic stadium but keep in mind the following facts about the Stadium:
          * It was built with a seated capacity of 110,000, 15,000 more than the MCG
          * It was built primarily with steel instead of concrete
          * Almost all the seats are completely protected from the rain
          * The turf grows well there despite the amount of cover for patrons
          * Parts of the design were/are completely inspiring.

The MCG has much less cover and makes heavy use of environmentally-unfriendly concrete. Docklands has a much lower capacity and you can't grow grass there (a significant problem one would think).

Given the constraints they were operating under, I think they did a good job. Whether or not AFL is best there or at Skoda (originally built as a baseball venue) or the SCG is a matter of personal preference surely. Having three great stadiums in Sydney and not having to play regularly at aany venue as bad as Docklands has me counting my blessings on this matter.

WRONG - official seating capacity in oval mode is 82,500. Source: http://www.anzstadium.com.au/AboutUs/History.aspx

WRONG - 60,000 are under cover. Source: http://www.anzstadium.com.au/AboutUs...lProjects.aspx

So you can clearly link the number of spectators or revenue raised (which were my points) to the outcome of the game? If you're implying that the venue had to do with the loss, then say that. If you're implying that we would have won the game if it was at the SCG, then say that. But $280,000 additional revenue for a club that is struggling financially is surely prudent. Or we can just raise memberships and ticket prices instead and just keep games at the SCG? Tell me, what are your suggestions?

Not sure the hand out of doe is as simple as that.

Regardless, there are other longterm variables to take into account.

Would the Swans attract more members if all their games were at the redeveloped SCG ?

I'd suggest it makes for a much clearer, stronger brand, if all Home games and finals are played at the one venue....the SCG fortress.

I'd think it would only help the Swans longterm both financially and spiritually.

I might be drawing a bit of a long bow...but lets face it.... Homebush sucks!
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

Homebush was built to hold 110K for the Olympics then reconfigured to the current 82,5k for oval games. The $280K estimated extra revenue this game brought in gets split between the stadium, the afl and the club, so while its handy is probably not as significant. And with recent average attendances out there under the 48k the new scg will hold, it begs the question why? I've been to almost every swans game since we started playing there, have been to bledisloe and nrl games, and even full it sucks. The atmosphere and some sight lines are crook. I bought premium tickets for a final, sat in bay 112 and couldn't see the eastern boundary. The only thing good there is the Vili's pies! Bring the games, and the vili's, back to the scg!

Oh. The precinct is nice cots just the stadium

Maybe the players can get part-time jobs and help out around the place and we can save money that way. You know, wash cars, mow lawns, draw cartoon caricatures. Money is everything apparently.

Money helps us have a club that survives (see Fitzroy) or maybe we can relocate the club again. Thoughts?

This thread is symptomatic of what is wrong with this forum at times. A bunch of sooks , sooking over a loss.

Stadium Australia is a very important strategic asset to our club and to slink back to being an eastern suburbs club only (the scg is an absolute pain to get to for 80% of Sydney) would be very, very backward thnking.

Grow up you whinny bitches. Anz didn't beat us, collingwood did.
