[QUOTE=ernie koala;626156]I sincerely hope this isn't our 'Fevola moment'.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Or even another 'Bradshaw moment'.

We already have one highly-paid forward who's a headcase. Buddy really is a headcase. It looks like Mickey O has the job to rein him in.

I can't believe the nine years. Then again, I didn't believe the Mumford rumours or the Buddy rumours. But nine years- that's a headcase.

I'd say there is no lack of coincidence of the timing of the Micky O announcement this morning.

And we all thought the Tippett thread was big this one will blow it away, AFL have announced they will be going over the deal with a fine tooth comb, and that the swans need to factor in the fact that we wont have cola in 2-3 years.

How good does Buddy look in this team for 2014!

          FB: Shaw Grundy Smith
          HB: Johnson Richards McVeigh
          C: Rohan Jack Jetta
          HF: O'Keefe Reid Goodes
          FF: McGlynn Franklin Tippett
          FOLL: Kennedy Pyke Hannebery

          INT: Malceski Bird Parker Everitt

          EMG: LRT, Mitchell, Lamb

Really want LRT in the team but can't see where he fits unless Grundy is out or we replace Everitt's run and carry from defense.@

Basically from the Prelim these players in order replace one another:
OUT: White, Mumford, Rampe, Biggs, Cunningham
IN: Franklin, Tippett, Johnson, Shaw, Goodes

I'm sure injuries and other factors will change the team structure but this looks pretty good to me!@
I See It But I Don't Believe It!!!!

THE Sydney Swans can confirm that an offer has been made to Lance Franklin?s management under the AFL free agency rules.

We are pleased that Lance has expressed his desire to join the Swans.

There is a due process that needs to be followed under the AFL free agency rules.

The Swans intend to lodge the offer with the AFL on Friday at the commencement of the free agency period. At that point, the Hawthorn Football Club will have the right to match the offer.

The Club is not in a position to make any further comment at this stage.before people start saying anything as it stands the swans have made an offer that is all. a lot of water to go under the bridge nothing has been signed.

The suggestion of a Reid trade is coming from Melbourne and the likes of Trade Week Radio. They feel the Swans have to "sacrifice" something in order to get Buddy.

If Pickering approached the Swans after last years Grand Final then it's amazing how it has been kept secret and only a few select know. Obviously Roos was not one of them.

Over the next three years, we will have some significant retirements that will free up a lot of money under the salary cap. At best you would think Goodes would have two years left and then you start adding the others. So if the list payment is managed correctly then there would be no need for players to leave apart from this year.

Question to be asked is Mummy going because of Buddy or would he have been gone anyway? Initially you would think not but he has become surplus and has a great deal of immediate trade value.

So if the Club has come all this way to think this through and make it happen then I would think that they can be relied on in the future as well.

Guess who'll be featured in next seasons Swans catalogue? I still don't understand why they don't introduce a geriatric range and have Kenny modelling. Swans printed bloomers and girdles would sell like hot cakes !!!!
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

How we orchestrated this without anyone knowing is nothing short of genius. Nevertheless, WTF?! 9 years! I can hardly fathom how this will work and no doubt the AFL world is going to absolutely implode. The hysteria, panic and seething anger is in full swing.

Looks good although Rampe will be in the side barring injuries. Maybe he will move into the middle or id say Shaw will be a depth player and Rampe a given to play every week. What he showed in his first year was nothing short of outstanding with another preseason the run out of our back half with the likes of Johnson,Rampe,Eski and Macca will be outstanding just need to all get as good as Macca at using the ball.

Heard a rumour that Incy may be looking for a trade with Johnson coming back and Rampe stepping over him.

I just love the angst this is causing. There's nothing to be gained by being the 'nice' team that everyone wants to win if their team doesn't.

Made all the better because he's from our main opponent. Like we'd taken Jud in 2007.

The 9 year offer is a smart move to stop the Hawks matching the offer which would have forced us to trade for him. Now, we could get him in the pre-season draft for nothing if we wanted to take that route (ie Tippett). Now that scenario would piss off the melb clubs even further!!
As for the 9 year offer, I'd suggest its to say to Buddy we'll look after you during your playing days (maybe 5 to 6 years) and then a coaching/development/marketing role post playing. I see him working with his mates (Goodesy and Micky ) in this capacity.
As for COLA, I can't see this being relevant to the recruitment of Tippett and/or Franklin. EVERY player has the 9.7% factored into their contract and signed off by the AFL. Interestingly, the AFL and the clubs thought it was fair for the Swans to have a COLA some years back. Eddie even confirmed it when/after his stay living in Sydney. Amazing what some playing success does to "the fairness" of other aspects.

It will be interesting to see what the Swans do with Mumford as now I see him gone. GWS will go harder at players now that they have missed out on Buddy. And Hawthorn as well. GWS have the cards as they could pick him up for nothing in the pre-season draft if they wanted (assuming Mummy nominated them as his preferred destination). I see us trading him for a draft pick which raises some interesting possibilities.
Do we go aggressive and offer GWS a deal? Mumford, our first pick and I hate to say it another established senior player for their 1st pick. I listened to Leon Cameron today and no doubt they have been blindsided but are strong on getting mature bodies into their side. They are strong on getting a mature ruckman and a key defender as part of their recruitment...hhhmm.

Also, its been reported that Buddy was having a coffee with some Swans players today in Bondi. Out of habit, as the waiter was giving Buddy his latte Teddy came over Buddy's shoulder to spoil. Its ok, Hanners was there to mop up!

Tippett the most expensive forward pocket in AFL history? I still reckon Reid goes down back.

This buddy thread the new tippet thread of last year. Now we all got something to do over summer.

                              News
LANCE Franklin's move to Sydney began soon after the 2012 Grand Final.

Franklin?s management contacted the Swans and said Franklin would like to play for them in 2014.

Talks were held during this season, before they were ramped up in the past eight weeks.

The announcement today that Franklin had knocked back a huge deal from GWS to join the Swans stunned the football world, including the AFL and the Giants.

The Franklin-Swans deal was known by only a handful of people.

GWS believes Sydney's offer for Franklin is a massive $1.4 million a season over five years, plus ambassadorial money yet to be determined.

But sources at the Hawks and rival clubs suggest the deal may be almost double that at $10 million over nine years.

                              - - - Updated - - -

The appointment today of Swans veteran Michael O'Loughlin to the post of head of Sydney's football academy - the position formerly held by Paul Roos - is believed to be a key to Franklin's decision.

An extraordinary day for the club and for football in Sydney. Swans recruiting staff are the best in the business.
