Lance Franklin to become a Swan

The "dead money" though is a requirement, otherwise you'll have clubs one-upping each other on the length of deals if they knew they had no intention of paying them the full terms. This is a fair and practical solution and holds parties accountable. Yes, more risk lies with the Club, but the Club is expecting that risk to be mitigated by other benefits such as increased memberships, exposure, bums on seats at games, corporate sponsorship. Heck, imagine the Redback member that is Buddy's personal sponsor?! Wowsers! It could be like printing money if handled correctly. Plus the signing has Macca's approval, so I guess I'm ok with itBut isn't this exactly what is being said by the AFL....
We will have Buddies wage (around $1.1m per year) count against our cap, regardless of whether he plays or is retired.
Given his age/ no. of games played, and apparently degenerative knee, that is a huge gamble with our clubs medium term situation.Comment

Ireland just categorically stated we don't need to move any more players out to accommodate Buddy. But did confirm Armstrong and Everitt were out of contract.Comment
