Which game was it where he just watched his player and didn't even go for a spoil..and it seems that he didn't even have to go for a hard spoil..he just gave up or was caught player watching..he did that a few times.

I think the reality is AJ is a better defender then Dre and can counter attack well enough with his very good fitness for a 193cm 20yr old

and secondly Rampe is a top 22 player now and has level jumped Dre.......so AJ and Rampe are now the 3rd tall defenders ahead of Dre and that means Dre will struggle to make the Snr team in 2014 hence his move

I know it is a massive call but Rampe is in the back six rotation for many years to come............he is a tenacious defender like AJ but Rampe kicks it as long as any and has a massive motor...........he could even push for the midfield as time goes on

its funny how we can forget so easily

i mean Shaw when he played his first season for the Swans used to drive me insane with his delivery from HBF...........i think that it is a fair argument that Rampe can be a little loose with his long passes but no worse then Dra and not far behind Shaw and he is only 23yrs of age !!! another pre season and building of awareness of danger zones and low pressure zones at SNR AFL level he will be coasting like a Sav Blanc on a warm summers night !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      everybody loves somebody sometimes !!!!

Wish him all the best but don't regard him as a huge loss. A further clearing of the decks and that little bit more in the kitty, if him leaving helps us resign a Tom Mitchell or other topliner next year then it will be worth it. Trade upgrade fair IMO but probably not worth a huge amount.

Our depth is fine, whether we win the flag will depend on four factors IMO, listed in their order of importance IMO

        (1) Injuries
        (2) Properly integrating Tippett and Buddy into a system, whilst KT played well I we didn't play as well as a team once he came back
        (3) Getting a decent ruckman
        (4) Turning Sam Reid into a top line key defender

Bring on 2014, have never been as excited about a season and I have been there since day one at the SCG.

Reading around the traps i sense so much cynical behaviour from swans fans. We are treating the loss of "reserve" players as major losses and over seeing the fact that in 2014 we will have a lethal 22. I understand the depth argument BUT as said if 1/3 of your best line up is missing due to inures then winning a flag is next to impossible.

Most fans of other codes would be in absolute raptures that their club signed a gun player and wouldn't care that much about losing "reserve" players. Yet in the AFL there is so much pessimism when players move around. Is it the way the AFL has set up a socialist style when in comes to spreading the talent? Do we get way too involved in list management and is this a direct result from super coach and all that fantasy league stuff?

I am just wrapt that we didnt lose so much for what we gained! Things might change in 2-3 years but then again we might have a couple of flags by then, who knows which might lead to having so much currency value in these future trades/drafts?

Interesting that Everitt's manager says the cost of living in Sydney as one of the reasons for going back to Melb

Yet another ex-player with no particular agenda mentioning the high cost of living here.
I'd like to think that those that say there is no need for a COLA would actually listen to what the likes of Drey and Mitch have said, but I won't hold my breath....

Of course the main problem with COLA is that it goes to all players even those on mega deals, as others have said maybe it should be say 20% and only to those under a certain amount.

Realistically it probably should be adjusted to a scale with those at the lower end earning 15 - 20% and those at the higher end earning maybe 3-5%
Someone like Franklin should be getting zero.
Doing it that way could reduce the total COLA to around 7 - 8% overall.
If the Swans are smart, they will preempt the AFL and make some kind of proposal.

Spiffy-dude, I think the answer is simpler than that.
We get attached to players, sometimes especially to those who are not particularly gifted and must struggle to achieve.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Perhaps, but a player on 300K per year should be able to make do without an extra 30K per year you'd think.
Question would become then, if Sydney were at a disadvantage because that player could earn 300K per year in Brisbane and have less expensive day to day consumables and get more bang for their buck in real estate etc

I guess you could argue 'yes', although I don't see player flocking to Adelaide and Perth to play their footy with a lower cost of living.
What Sydney need to continue to develop is a bunch of great incentives to come and live there.
                        Training facilities, lifestyle, etc

Perhaps Eddie would be happier if the AFL provided NSW players with subsidised rent and food vouchers

Everitt kicks on with the Blues - AFL.com.au

"I think the main thing was that Mick actually came up and saw me and sort of pleaded his case a little bit as to why I should be in the Carlton jumper. It really hit home that I want to come back and play in Melbourne, and this is the team for me,? Everitt said.

wow did we miss something in Dre's talent

Malthouse flew up to meet dre.........would have been a 4hr flight each way for a borderline 22 player ?

or are the Blues that desperate ?

good luck incy as I think it will be a long few years at Carlton - their talent is a fair way below the top 4 teams

Tadgh made a really good point that 80% of Swans rent and the rookies aren't on much at all $45k or so. I used to earn that not long ago and lived in similar suburbs - you definitely don't have much left over at the end of the week, even if you live reasonably modestly. And include the food they'd have to consume, obviously a lot more vitamins and fresh food (which can be expensive) and you can see how things can add up for them

Maybe Mick fancied a bit of a short break up in Queensland and this turned it into a business trip?!!
