Well at least Jesse understands him. He is definitely a bit different. Hope he does well. Not for want of persistence that's for sure.

Different as in he has followed the hipster fad?
Umm a lot of footballers, especially some collingwood players, have embraced the hipster fad.Comment

At the risk of appearing too cruel, that's pretty much what was said about him on RWO when we recruited him. How long before they realise he isn't pacy and that his foot skills are disastrously pressure sensitive although he does a fantastic impression of a windmill. I guess Hine didn't watch a lot of NEAFL.
Despite that . . . Best of luck Tony.Last edited by Ruck'n'Roll; 8 November 2013, 02:29 PM.Comment

Tony has a couple of problems at AFL level. He is too lose to be a defender and his tackling is poor compared to other defenders. Young Biggs is a far better tackle and can do the same things skills wise that Tony does. Sad because he has always been a Swans fan and grew up barracking for the Red & White. But the fact is he is not in the long term plan. I was not surprised at his axing as I have watched a bit of Twos footy and while he is very good at that level there still seems to be a lack of intensity to his game that kids like Biggs, Xav & even Lockyer have.Comment

To me he just seems half a pace behind the speed of the game. Couldnt question his commitment and endeavour and all that but when it came to game day most times Tony seemed to be left behind and most times he seemed lost when he had the ball and even worst when he defended.
He will prob shine in the VFL and thats where he will stay being called up as an emergency now and then. The pies seem to be going in that direction though, smaller running players.Comment

All true, and I am OK with letting him go, but he may thrive in a new environment. Wouldn't be the first time it has happened. Good luck to him.
The Form Guide might read: "Has some ability. Could surprise. Each-way chance."
And that's nub of it. Collingwood are taking a bit of a gamble. It may pay-off.Comment

"Tony is a lovely kick with either foot and a pacy defender we think he can make a strong contribution," Magpies list manager Derek Hine said.

Like you, I hope he finds another level and goes well.
But my prediction.... About 6 games will see him out.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

spot on
Luv your summarizing.. a turnstile tackler and poor defender sums it up pretty well. I wish him the best at Collingwood and maybe he can lift his game , but frankly I am surprised they took the risk. I know why they took Jessie white, because we all know he can play, but Armstrong???Comment
