    The forgotten recruit .....Jeremy Laidler

I don't know why, but I've got a good feeling about Laidler...

He's come with no fanfare, no crap.... he's a brave, no frills, defender .

I reckon he'll be in the mix for round 1 and beyond.

What do others think, or feel, about his prospects as a Swan ?
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

Laidler had a great 2011 season. The Calton fans loved him. It seems that he's over his injuries and could be a very big factor for us. There's every chance he could fill the role vacated by Mattner, who Laidler said he thinks he plays like. I would agree. It's a similar story to Mattner's as well. He's a player that seems really solid, but has fallen out with the coach for some reason.

If he can hold his spot, that would free up either Rampe or Smith for the midfield.

      We got a superstar.
      Lost a few good men.
Picked up some handy, but raw players.
      Gained some young talent.

I think we've come out of the trade/draft/delisting period pretty well.

In his interview he stated that he was told by SS that they needed someone to play the Marty Mattner role, and he has all the creds to do that. Welcome aboard!

              does that mean :

Macca will play most of his minutes in the backline in 2014 ?

Shaw wont go back into the backline unless we suffer injuries?

When AJ comes back do we see Rampe go to midfield rotation ?

Smith to contest Birdy for a tight defensive midfielder role ?

And if so does that mean Laidler will even get a Senior game after round 6 when Shaw and AJ are ready to rock !

JL said in interview somewhere that he was told with AJ and Shaw on injury comeback there was a spot there for the taking if he was good enough....he said he planned to play round one and make it impossible to drop him. :-)

I don't think Rhyce will play back again. I think he is going to be a pinch hitter at best this year filling the gaps. Laidler is a very solid, strong defender and I think Mick was probably told he is injury prone at Carlton. If he can stay fit he will be a definite plus.

I think Rhyce is a 50-50 bet at best, as much I hope he is right.

We need a couple of step ups this year to really contend and Laidler could be a real surprise packet. I think Rampe may find his second season pretty tough but think Rohan could have a real breakout season and, injury free, establish himself as a genuine A Grader in the comp.

So if Laider plays and with AJ and Shaw still injured, our round 1 backline could be something like

                          B: Smith Ted Laidler
                          HB: LRT Grundy Malceski

If Laidler is playing the Mattner role, it's between LRT and Rampe for the sixth spot? LRT wins on experience and better hair.

rampe signed on for two years

                            Laidler 1

my guess is Rampe after 20 something games in 2013 will hold his spot

Laidler has a good shot at making the team. If you concede that one of the bench players is going to be a backman or switch hitter then I would say he will be there for the NAB & they will assess him after that. I think he is a good player and a very good pick up. A bit confused as to why Mick didn't like him as we carved his replacement, Walker, up in the Semi.
