It may well depend on what position McVeigh plays this year. Swans like to set up with a rotation of 7 defenders in the match day XXI, and for most of last year this brigade consisted of T.Richards, Grundy, Rampe, Malceski, Smith, McVeigh and Everitt. Biggs came into the side late in the year which freed up McVeigh to play in the middle, and he was brilliant especially in that semi final win over Carlton. But let's not forget that he won AA selection on the strength of his HB work in 2013 so it won't be an easy decision.
If the switch is made, that frees up 2 spots in the backline to fill in Everitt and McVeigh's place. Rampe manfully battled on as our 3rd tall defender but would look more comfortable against less vertically advantaged opponents. The Swans could bring back LRT to fill this role, or in turn ask one of Ted or Reg to do so with LRT slotting into a key post, Laidler would play alongside Rampe with one of them to become our new Mattner in providing third-man in assistance to the key defenders as well as crucial run off the half back line.
Or the Swans could keep LRT up forward (somehow amongst the tall timber. just don't ask me about the details) and have to choose between Laidler and Rampe as Everitt's replacement. Everitt, who despite his height, often found himself tasked with the defensive assignments on small forwards.
TL;DR Backline re-shuffle either
IN: LRT, Laidler
OUT: Everitt, McVeigh
or
IN: Laidler
OUT: EverittComment

I loved Macca at HB, even when he played a bit back in 2012. The fact is that he's very good wherever he plays.
The similarities between the Mattner and Laidler stories are striking. Both came off the rookie list to play some excellent footy. Then, for some inexplicable reason, fell out of favour with their respective coaches. MM made a real blunder delisting a player of Laidler's quality.
The problem with Mick is that his ego is bigger than his brain. If Laidler has a solid pre-season, which so far sound like the case, he'll probably get a start against GWS.Comment

AJ will be held back and start in the ressies. He hasn't play a game in a whole year. We have too many healthy defenders that need a game in the early part of the season to see how they go.
