Derryn is at least Gay friendly and he fought for the right of the Gay Ex-Services Association to put a wreath at the War Memorial at the Dawn Service when Ruxton (Victorian President of the RSL, a wanker) would not allow it. Derryn got public opinion very much onside for the GEXSA and the government even intervened and they were allowed to put the wreath down the next year.
