    nah

the media has to churn out articles to fill the papers and Foxtel has to do the same with the TV shows

its just negative talk in the period of the slow start and us loosing what we all thought was not a game we could loose !

wait till we blast teams off the park............then the jealousy will come back from the fans of other clubs fuelled by the media once again

As the stockbrokers used to say and journalists know :

This split round start has been a complete drag.

I don't think it is the next 4-5 years that are the problem.. It the 4-5 years after that that is of concern.. The contract length and amount is quite ludicrous.

Nobody expects Buddy to play for that long , the contract length was a necessity so we could spread out his payments. The money , well considering the record membership numbers, he's already doing his part off field, let's give him a chance to see what he can do on it. Both on and off field considerations must be considered when debating the worthiness of Buddy's signing.

5 years from now GC and GWS will be fighting forthe crown; the rest will have to sit back and watch, so why worry about Buddy then.

The last few years of the contract will be at least half it current value when the salary cap increases. Necessary evil to get the job done as stated above.

I agree his played his best footy, but like Dermott said, there's no reason at the peak of his powers now, he can't hold the course for a few years before sliding backwards. Even then he will be a handful.

Made worse by our loss. Even with a win its still a horrible way to start a season. So stunted and broken up.

Yep. It would seem that everyone is better informed than the club and that they signed him on a whim while they were half-cut at their local.

This club doesn't make many blues these days.

But what about keeping our players!?!

Other than a loss on Mummy-
whom for mine has been injury prone for two seasons, and who also won't get better. And may shorten his career with our beloved crash and bash style of his.

I see no issues, in fact we've gone on to re-sign:
                    N. SMith
                    Mcveigh
                    Richards
                    Rohan
                    McGlynn
                    Longmire

Late last year we signed up for 3 years
                    Hanners
                    Parker

I think it's all under control and planned. goodes and ROK are sadly in their last/next to last years I imagine. That free's up 2 more spots and truck load of cash.

just believe in the club and be optimistic!

You can lock Hanners in for the next 9 years as well, with or without a contract. He's got a side deal with Buddy to provide a date and transport to the next 9 Brownlow dinners.

Yeah, hate the split round. Even if we had won, that wouldn't have made it much better because it's *only* GWS.

The way to see the Buddy deal is as a maximum of nine years. It's his bet against the club that he will retain form and physical condition. Most likely he will retire in that period, hopefully after at least five years service.

It's a risk but one player can't destroy a club system and culture. The mountain of incredibly dumb things said in the last couple of weeks has made me realise that.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

I'm sure we've covered it before in the 10,000+ Buddy posts, but what's the impact on our salary cap for the remaining years of the 9 year term if Buddy retires before the 9 years is up?

its also about peaking in cycles

                              2012 - tick GF winner

2013 - too many injuries to know but 4th was acceptable given the injury toll

2014 - massive chance with the blend of experience, class and emerging players almost ready.........it is amazing how we are almost off the radar after week1 ??????

2015 - maybe as the next layer of youth starts to impose themselves on games ?

after that we will no doubt need players of freaky ability to keep us in some games let alone dominate games like the previous seasons
