He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I don't care about the hoo har - just think how freakin good our forward lines will be with Reid Tippett Franklin then Goodes Jetta Rohan - look outside the square - this will be beautiful to watch when it finally clicks into place - all good things come to those who wait - have faith people!!I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I wouldn't. If you put Mummy back in our team instead of Franklin we win in round one. It's that simple. We won the 2012 GF with Mummy in our team and Franklin against us. He may be a marketing tool but we really didn't need him on the ground. That said, he was far from our worst tonight. I wonder if he rues his decision. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Interestingly, Sandilands got 58 hitouts. Freo won the hitout count 69-19, but still lost the clearance stat.
Too much is made of the ruck contests. It doesn't have that much impact on effective possession.
Frankly, I'd like the Swans to play without a ruckman and see how they go. Essendon's fight back against Hawthorn began after Ryder got injured and was subbed out, so they were playing without a legit ruckman against McEvoy and Hale.Comment

We won both the hitouts and the clearances. The ruck wasn't the problem.

My point re the ruck situation was more about the around the ground stuff and not so much about hit-outs. Having watched the way Mumford worked in yesterday's GWS match, I noticed how much we miss him as that bullocking body creating space for our midfielders when the ball is on the deck. We don't have a ruckman capable of that sort of stuff now.Comment

In another coincidence: The first season of Neville Fields' lucrative multi year contract 1978, also saw the Swans begin the season with three losses and a win.Comment

I thought this quote was fun too:
"The Swans have recruited tremendously well in the past couple of years and now have quite a depth of talent. One look at their long list of quality material shows why the experts are rating them as a danger side for the flag."
Sounds like 2014 doesn't it - no prize for guessing the real year.Comment

New COLA / GWS rant
Recruiting Lance Franklin a 'bad move', says GWS boss
Seems Shepherd doesn't just want it both ways, but 'every' way.
He's starting to appear a little bit insane, but regardless, it's good in developing a real rivalry between the two clubs, which I would say is his main purpose....The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment
