I am just stating one of the reasons why Lance seems to be happier. I don't care for the sydney vs melb thing but miserable weather does play a big part in someones psyche. Sorry but the weather down south is just hidous.
Or is talking about the weather now a no no? Settle down my little angry melbournians.

Who cares which city is better? The weather is terrible and one thing we can all agree on.Comment

Of course the Melbourne/Sydney rivalry is tedious. Both are great cities. Equally tedious is the weather comparison: I actually prefer cooler weather, as do many people. "Miserable" describes a state of mind, not the weather. So no, that is not "one thing we can all agree on".I am just stating one of the reasons why Lance seems to be happier. Where this does become an issue for Swans supporters is when it degenerates into a denigration of the club's Melbourne heritage, and the insinuation that this needs to be somehow jettisoned if the club is to progress in Sydney. That has been seriously argued in this forum in recent weeks, and I for one find it divisive and silly, to say the least.Comment

Yes, one of the many cool things about the Swans today is how they embrace the South Melbourne heritage and make sure all young players learn about it. The banner in the 2005 GF said it all.Of course the Melbourne/Sydney rivalry is tedious. Both are great cities. The content of the message was good, but he did a terrible job delivering it. No offense to Kieran, but he stumbled quite a bit during his delivery, had bad tonality and had no connection with the audience. Looks like an average high school student giving an oral presentation. McVeigh a few years back did a much better job.Comment

"Terrible job" is a colossal overstatement. He was a bit stilted and nervous and was obviously reading most of the time, but he was fluent and clear and did a pretty decent job for a young bloke whose primary occupation is kicking a footy. As a former coach of public speakers I would rate him as a promising talent. Not perfect, but a lot to work with. The content of the message was good, but he did a terrible job delivering it. I understand he's young etc... and I think he did a decent job for his age... but he needs work on it... badly. I'm sure it's just that he isn't in that situation every day (Speaking formally in front of an audience). I'm sure he does a bang-up job when he's revving up the team at the start of the game."Terrible job" is a colossal overstatement. Kieran Jack is one of my favourite players and I tipped him to be the captain back in 2010, so please don't mistake my criticism of his public speaking skills to that of nastiness. Just needs fine-tuning is all. McVeigh or even Kirk should give him tips.Comment

Don't agree with that. Public speaking is a skill that can be practised and learned in the same way as many other skills. Some people find it a little easier to learn that other, but most people can become decent if they have sufficient practice. If KJ had spent as many hours practising public speaking as he has running and kicking a Sherrin, he'd probably be pretty good at it by now.
I thought his speech was fine. Yes, the delivery might have been better had he not been so obviously reading it, but if you go back and watch past speeches from people like McVeigh, you'll notice he has detailed notes in front of him too - he has just learned to look up at the audience a little more often.Comment

Suggestions for alternative speakers at next year's jumper presentation dinner:
Mike Pyke: 6 minute speech completed in 2 minutes. Everyone says it was great, but no one can tell you what it was about.
Adam Goodes: Inspirational speech, but talks so slowly that Bobby Skilton falls asleep half way through.
Dan Hannebery: Energtic! Everyone pumped. Doctors advise Bobby Skilton to never attend another jumper presentation dinner again.
Allir Allir: No one can say what it was about, but everyone says it was a 'feel good story'.
Buddy Franklin: Can't do it. Has previous engagement.
Rhyce Shaw: Can't find notes and fumbles through speech. Notes discovered 2 hours later in Nick Malcelski's beard.
Dane Rampe: Nobody listens, they're just watching his hair.
Ryan O'Keefe: Everyone comments how good Kieran Jack's speech was the previous year.Comment

Benny McGlynn, we assume the speech is fantastic, however as the speaker is blocked by the lectern no one is absolutely sureSuggestions for alternative speakers at next year's jumper presentation dinner:

I didn't have a problem with Kizz's speech. Not perfect, but he is a footballer, not a public speaker. I understood him, diction good, so what if he had to rely on notes. I have seen many senior Swans officials do that! I have heard a lot lot worse. Kell for instance.
So why on earth would a Swans supporter even want to chip at Kizz?? The content of the speech was good for a Jumper Presentation Night. It was not exactly the opening of Parliament! If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment
