Yep. I toyed with deleting it, but decided to leave it as a prime example of what we have nicely asked people NOT to post on RWO.

We have members plenty of members who are from Melbourne or call it home. Some love Melbourne, some Sydney, many others wouldn't dream of living in either place. This constant bashing of Melbourne is tiresome and akin to baiting.

This is the final warning. Future posts of this type will be deleted and infractions issued, if warranted.

Melbourne people clearly have better Things to do than bag out other cities. I applaud the class of the Melbourne people on here just ignoring the countless bile being spewed on here recently about their great city . Take a bow you splendid Melbournians!

So once we lose our COLA but keep concessions in some limited form for lower salary earners on the list, does it become more of a Coke Zero?

...don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I get the angst. But move on. Do some research. Confront the issue of equalisation from a basis of rationality. But stop reacting

Understand the history of your club. The swans could have died a large number of times and the afl kept them - and the afl commission is made up of the clubs. The Sydney crowd for all the support that exists currently wasn't there other than expats in the early 80s. It wasn't there apart from the diehards in the 90s. It may have got a solid base now, but don't kid yourself. Take out the Melbourne members of the swans at the membership is DOWN the bottom of the afl ladder. Consistently below the membership levels of the worst supported Melbourne clubs.

As someone who has lived in both Sydney and Melbourne I can confidently assert Sydney is a prettier city. But it is a traffic nightmare, and unless you live near the beaches or the harbour it is every bit as unattractive as what you say Melbourne is.

As an economist the cola is the bluntest of instruments designed to assist the swans retain players. That's what it is. It doesn't reflect the true cost of difference, nor does it reflect the true issue, which is the expense suffered by players on low wages forced to move interstate because of the restraint of trade associated with the draft. The afl should actually properly address what needs to be addressed here. Players forced to move interstate should receive an allowance for doing so which reflects the different costs associated with doing so.

Lastly the cola is a distortion and it is all very well pointing to other examples of distort ions but shouldn't our aim be to remove them not to further encourage things ? Eddies job like that of Richard colless and Andrew pridham is to be an advocate for his club. It is up to the commission to address to look at the good of the game

I could go on forever about these things. But typing at 3.30 in the morning because I have been watching the test cricket and should be in a good mood just seems silly.

Great post, particularly so as to the time it was written! Couldn't agree more with all your points.
I have cousins in Melbourne who are Storm fans and after chatting to them recently I have come to the conclusion that what we go through being a successful interstate team in the AFL is pretty much what The Storm and their fans go through as a successful interstate team in the NRL, particularly as far as the media is concerned.

Gee whiz, I don't think I've ever read that much drivel in one sitting. Misguided, bitter and very disrespectful to a significant portion of our great club's supporter base.

Storm are know and punished cheaters who have had titles stripped plus are owned by News Ltd.

Please don't say that's in our future!

Most sensible post I've read in a long time, especially on the economics involved.
As a Sydneysider born and bred who came to live in Melbourne a couple of decades ago, my first impression after being here a fortnight was that Sydney has much more in the way of natural advantages, but Melbourne has done much better with what it's got. I have to revise both parts of that assessment in the light of the way Sydney has opened up the harbour foreshore (despite The Toaster), and in the light of what Melbourne has done with Docklands (I could weep).
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Haha, no I didn't mean that! I meant in the type of and amount of media coverage each team receives in their own state as against what the bigger clubs get in their home states - if that makes any sense

Then why do you consistently post here? I really think BF is more your style.

I must say the V Melbourne rants are very boring and distracting to why I read RWO (and only occasionally post).

I am relatively new to the game, but have become very attached to AFL and the Swans. Mostly posters know much more than me and their insights and opinions are enjoyable grist to my knowledge mill.

I hope the season starting will revive our interest in football!

Liz. I've apolised for my comment earlier, but now that you have deleted Spiffy, everyone who reads today's comments will think that I'm the one and only bad guy.

Could you please clarify that all follow up comments were not directed at my post?
