And no doubt Melbourne or Adelaide young players share rent too. If it costs 25% more to rent a 3 bedroom house in Sydney than it does in Melbourne, the three Sydney players sharing that house are still going to be paying 25% more rent each than the three young Melbourne based players also sharing a 3 bedroom house. Of course, some of those young Melbourne based players may still be able to live at home for a while, an option only really available to Perris, Jack and Robinson amongst the youngest Sydney players.Comment

stiffy's rants are always good value.
COLA was good whilst it lasted. I hope an agreeable solution for all parties can be found. Or we can hope our club has become desirable enough for players to take a bit of a haircut when they join.
Truly a victory for Mr Eddie "Equalisation" Maguire. Now please Eddie, come up with a fair weighted solution for all clubs across all states. The junkets overseas researching this topic were surely not for nothing?Comment

The didn't happen because the Swans picked up Tippet and Buddy. This happened because the Melbourne clubs were allowed to use those recruitments to drive an agenda they already had. I think no matter who the Swans had picked up to cover the loss of Mitch, Jude, etc, they would have been high-profile enough to be used in this way by clubs who wanted the COLA gone. The frustration here is that facts lose to narrative and narrative is created by people with vested interests.Comment

Hey Spiffy. Come to Melbourne for a couple of weeks. Fantastic weather here in March/April. Sunny and cooler and we have SEN.

Sydney have stockpiled some remarkable talent. Our top 6 are Buddy, Tippett, Kennedy, K.Jack, Mckvigh and Dan Hanna's are amongst the best top players in the AFL!
Other Victorian teams in recent years have had amazing lists. Think Collingwood, The Hawks and Geelong. We never questioned how those great teams maintained amazing talent! The Swans have bit their best ever list and other clubs are chipping away at that! Buddy and Tipp would struggle in the midfield and half back line could not feed them the ball!Comment

The comments, the comments!

Its not only Franklin, what about Tippett, Kennedy, Hall, Lockett etc. The Swans have been ripping off clubs for years and getting away with it! The cost of living in Sydney isn't that big a deal anyway. If so, Melbourne and Perth clubs would get an allowance because the cost of living is less in Adelaide and Brisbane! What a RORT that was for the Swan!Greg 1 hour ago
Agrred Craig, the swans have been ripping the heart out of the league for years. Melbourne is almost on a par with Sydney...the stats came out today that showed Sydney and Melbourne both in the top 10 most expensive in the world..... yet the nine Melbourne clubs don't get any more than Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Geelong. If we're going to use the swans logic, then Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Geelong are the three clubs that should have the least salary cap of anyone. Swans can learn to live like everyone elseMelissa 54 minutes ago
Oh poor widdle $ydney. Have been the AFL's lovechild for years. They have been up there long enough, isn't about time they learned to stand on their own two feet. Maybe some of the players can go and live with Franklin or Tippett if they are going to struggle to live up there or maybe those two could help out the players with their rent or mortgages if they are struggling as they have the bulk of the salary cap. OR maybe Kieren is just having a sook because he isn't getting a bigger slice of the pie and won't now the COLA is on the way out. So funny, my sides are splitting...Comment

The COLA was gone as soon as Eddie pushed hard to get rid of it. When the Adelaide & Perth clubs came onboard it was gone. Forget the tears. Lets get vengeance. Win the premiership and show them this is what happens when you **** us around.Comment

Oh well they will have nothing to whinge about now until GWS is successful and Sydney has two winning teams joins - hopefully the only scraps that Melbourne clubs pick up will be from GWS and finally I hope Buddy kicks more goals than Jesse White this year so that i don't have to cop what i have given to pies supporters with the success of Rhys Shaw at the swans - just being selfish !! hopefully - Collingwood's turn to be teased now !Comment

Just when I was beginning to think of abandoning RWO because of some of the sub-par posts, spiffy-dude proves that no matter how far the standard of discussion drops on RWO, it's remains a shining beacon of rationality and wit.
Apparently Andrew Ireland claims that if they hadn't grabbed Buddy, the Swans would still have the cost of living allowance. . . . I would dearly love to know when he came to that realisation.Comment

Perhaps Buddy's addition to the Sydney market can help bring the game to greater heights in Sydney, and subsequently provide greater opportunities for players to earn income outside of the footy uoval. Surely his recruitment was based around what he would bring off field just as much as on it. Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen, but I'm sure it was part of the bigger pictureComment
