    Could be wrong though.

'Giants and Suns are looking scary' has become a cliche which is why I find the opinion so doubtful. It's almost as if nobody is thinking about it anymore and it's all a massive assumption.
I reckon a fair chunk of their 27 first round picks are looking the goods but we'll have to wait and see. If they're unbeaten in 4 or 5 rounds we'll have our answer.

Does anyone think that the fact we don't have Mummford anymore and we didn't have the experience in the midfield of Bolton and OKeefe plus the fact Jack pulled out contributed to the loss? This would have been the first game our midfield would have played without the experience of either Bolton or OKeefe to direct the midfield. The new midfield need to step,up.

We entered the game with an underdone Pyke against the duo of Mummy and Giles, so we had to expect to be beaten in this area. It was the selection committee's call to play LRT ahead of a second ruckman, which would have helped in middle by perhaps offered less around the ground. We know that if Pyke and Tippett are not both fit and playing we will be down in this area all season.

Agree that we missed KJ. His fitness and energy would have helped for sure, but we still had a good midfield.

Bolton hardly played in the midfield last year and if ROK can't get selected then Jude certainly wouldn't have. Of our much vaunted midfield, only Parker and to a lesser extent McGlynn had respectable games.

If there was ever a Team loss, this was it.

"If ever there was a team loss, was it."

This is the part that worries me the most. Why did we grind to walking pace in the last quarter while the GWS young guns kept running & running? Sure there are reasons for some of our players who had shortened pre-season preparation due to injury/ops. But what about the rest? Do our fitness programs not match some other clubs? I really don't know.

I think it is probably the case that top draft picks mean, almost above anything else, elite runners. They will cause a lot of trouble for others too.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

i still cant get theat missed goal out of my head on the wknd........you know the one.........there was 16mins to go in the last qtr....... and buddy missed from 40 out a little to the left of centre.......and we were leading 63-60 !

"and two roads diverged in the woods.......and the swans took the road less travelled by........ but it didnt make all the difference !"

Rowan hit the post with exactly 10 minutes remaining on the clock to give us a 7 point lead 67-60.

So for the last half of the final qtr we were beaten by GSW 39-nil. At that rate of scoring for a full game, we would have lost 312 - 0, just to put that into perspective. It's really quite extraordinary.

He is upset that mature players were not recruited and young talent was stockpiled! The reality is that it's been difficult for the expansion clubs to recruit a lot of good mature players, so they have built with youth!
Which shows Eddie ,and the committee, as naive, slow thinkers, who made wrong assumptions ..

They have been out thought by both expansion clubs, who saw a one off opportunity to pillage the country of top line Aussie Rules talent, whilst starving the rest of the competition...

A classic case of 2 birds with one stone.

On top of this, GWS have the pick of the Riverina and NT, for future pillaging....And they talk about equalisation.

Both these expansion teams will, in a few years from now, as was orchestrated by the AFL, be the 'artificial dominators' of the competition.....I'm not looking forward to it.

As the margin closed, most Swan's were looking at each other waiting for someone to 'make it happen'. This was still happening in the last QTR!

We were soft, flat and some of our stars (I'm looking at you Hanner's) were awful. I got the feeling most players were treating the game as an extended pre-season, with the first real game against the pies in 2 weeks.

You have got to give credit to GWS and their young guns. They were super impressive and showed such class to finish out the game so powerfully.

I would hope Horse gave them an absolute rocket!
Well said goodsy. If we had taken our chances and kicked 6.1 in the 2nd quarter instead of 1.6 we could have gone into the long break 30 odd points up. Sliding doors. But what concerned me the most was, who was sticking for buddy when 2 or 3 gws players where giving it to him. He is a bloods now. Where were his brothers. I am confident will respond with a better performance in a couple of weeks.
