You may be overestimating Kurt's importance. He was one of the big names but not the biggest. He was also in the news more often for his concussions than for his football. In contrast, Buddy was the biggest in the country.

Kurt Tippett was the biggest name in South Australian football. It was huge news when he came to the Swans after they won a premiership.

With all due respect, the primary reasons Kurt's departure were so significant in Adelaide were:

1) he had wanted to depart PRIOR to signing his PREVIOUS Crows contract. He was talked into staying with a generous new deal. The Crows felt that they had invested heavily in him & had hoped he would be convinced to stay during that period.

2) he had a solid season (you seem to forget it was regularly interrupted by concussion) but his LAST game of that season was a good one (a losing final against Hawthorn) so it was prominent in the memory of fans.

3) Tippett was expected to go to either of the Queensland teams, but instead chose to go to the reigning Premiers. That transfer would have been far less of a fuss & the Crows 3rd party payments might not ever have been uncovered.

4) South Australian fans rate ALL of their players as something special ... usually, far better than the rest of the country rate them. Kurt is a power forward with potential, no doubt, & he was probably THEIR best forward at the time. That doesn't make him the biggest name in SA football by any means. The biggest story, yes, especially in light of their difficulty with interstate recruit retention & his defection, but biggest name? No sir!

I smell opportunity here - Swans should set up a body shop at the SCG, employ some of the rookies as apprentices and by about year 3 they can be paying for Buddy's contract by services in kind instead of hard-earned $. Win/win/win!

Matt80 what gives you the right to tell Buddy how to live his life??? Why do you have to know who he was at the beach with? He can go out on the town or to the beach with Who ever he bloody well pleases - he does not have answer too you! Oh and the media reporting - hmm ask the 4 guys who were wrongly sacked at Cronulla last year - their lives were turned upside down by the media. But what wasn't reported was that they were all quietly exonerated and apologised to by the NRL Later in the year - and yet the main offenders who rubbished them, blamed them and made up the most ridiculous stories about them( hooper, massoud & Wilson all at News) said nothing - no apology and the thing is none of them had ever spoken to any of he sacked guys - but character assassinated them nonetheless - yeah fine up standing citizens they are - NOT!!!! you say the media are doing a good job? Jesus what crap,

Calm down Wardy. I'm not trying to tell Buddy how to live his life. In fact I think all the Buddy publicity is helping the Swans membership numbers.

I'm just making the point if Buddy can keep out of the off field spotlight for six months then the media would lose interest.
